Smokey & the Bandit Extended Online Race

poo, utah, kush and capers - i have no ride for you guys on 3/4 - am i right on that?

Correct, i don't ride Mondays, ever.

i wouldn't say Ilya is a low cadence guy. His level 2/endurance pace is close to 90 rpm. Interval's is where cadence lowers but this is within range of the tob plan. The 5 min. rest period cadence in between intervals is kinda useless. Usually your just trying to wipe the snot from your face and clear your eyes to get ready for the next inteval.

- I'm not low cadence, but I do these suckers up a hill so that's part of it. Actually now that you and Norm brought this up, I noticed plan called for 85-100 for the 4x10s so I kind of screwed these up a bit. Thanks guys.

- I've put in hundreds of miles of endurance pace between 95 and 105, since my garmin excludes zeros for both cadence and power, it averages lower, I think. I'm always toast after the long END rides.

short ride around the neighborhood - post endoscopy - celebrating an "all clear" (i.e. no bleeding ulcers or worse...). I may have stumbled upon a novel training strategy - train for 6 months with a blood hemoglobin level of 12 and then get it back up to 15-16, kinda like training at higher altitude.

52 min/11.6 miles - 2 pts

My ride was from Home to Mercer County Park and back on a Single Speed Mountain Bike.

It is spitting on and off all day and there is some wind, but not like yesterday.

I’m finding my new Yugo (cheap) GPS gets a little slow in the woods on tight twisty trails. I updated the distance (off by 2 miles) and max speed (also off by 2 miles) from my bike computer. GPS and bike computer match up almost perfectly on the road or on the straight trail.

Keep calm and carry on.😎

Yep, a GPS is never as accurate as a wheel sensor. especially on twisty stuff like Mercer and 6MR. I'm usually off 1 mile or so compared to a bike computers, sometimes as much as 2 :-0

That's an interesting loop - I was gonna try one from Griggstown causeway down the canal towpath and then across to MCP and back. Should be about 50 miles.

re: GPS mileage/speed sampling rate makes a big difference. I've been comparing my forerunner 410 (smart sampling rate only) to the edge 810 set a 1 sec sample rate. Zooming in on my tracks where I rode serpentine you can see the actual path on the 810 capture, the 410 capture shows a straight line. Twisty trails like the sourlands the 410 is off by as much as 0.3-0.4 miles in a single 5 mile loop.

Hey Jeff, you're up by 1 point!! Does your offer still stand to give me points for riding in your shoes?

-Jim.

2hrs, 4pts.
Was suppposed to do 4x10 but after the 1st I knew the fourth might not happen. As it turned out I didn't even hit my target on the 3rd.
When your in the zone the environment around you does not affect you. Today on the 3rd set I felt the wind, the rain and could not find the right gear to spin. I'm in need of rest, tomorrow is recovery day. More volume this wknd followed by a much needed rest week.

Norm, I'm a spinner...just ran out of gas today. Cadence; 89,86,84
You and Utah are grinders, Ilya is somewhere in between...puree?

Quick ride to pick up my car - 1 hour - 2 points.
light rain, but not enough to claim

i feel another bike oriented parody coming...

Norm like to grind more than me, at least on the road bike doing intervals anyway. im usually good for 80-85

has to be the worst weather I have ever done intervals in. I had a nice shell of wet snow encasing me by the end. But mr miyagi says sand the floor, so you sand the floor in the hopes the he will one day give you his 46 ford convertible

Funny but AM commute was way more windy then yesterday. In fact it made for interesting loops at the Park. I had rockstar hair on the 3 sisters side but as soon as you turn the corner at horseshit gully it was like a salmon going upstream. Had to really put my head down and push on those pedals. Observation 2 is in the 3 loops, I did not see another cyclist training, that folks is a first. I didn't get that memo.

PM commute was just down right brutal, I am so done with winter, stinging snow in the face and really wet cold feet. So I opted for the long way home 🙄 Hey it builds character...

You are doing these btw well above your FTP we calc'd before, no? Your FTP is the 90% of your 20min number. just checking.

Since battenkill is really not that much of a target anymore, I'm going to appoint you as my new motivation.

Thursday night's ride ...

Great conditions for a ride - although when I finished I realized it was raining (I have no idea ow long it was doing so, and it certainly doesn't warrant a rain bonus because I was in the woods anyway.) Temps were in the low to mid 40's, trails were surprisingly dry and flowy ... nice night!

2 hours = 4 points

This will be my seventh day in a row and I already know I won't be able to ride every day this month for other commitments, so might as well take the 7 day bonus of 10 points now as well ... I'll still be curious to see how many days I can ride but it's unlikely I'll get out again on Friday because of work meetings and an evening commitment ...

This is why i work on a golf course. I forgot to x my 20 min number by.90.
That number seems lame, and those zones are weak.

Since I've been doing ok with my straight up 272 ftp number I'm going to stick with it. That means I'm training like someone with a 20 min number of 303 avg power...which is where I need to be.
