Smokey & the Bandit Extended Online Race

Jim. Do more than 20 in them and I'll give you two of my points! Haha. Or just wait till the new Teva Pivots come out and wear those. 🙂

My commute to work is exactly 20 miles. I'd throw flats on my Seven for an extra 2 points :getsome:

sorry, we're experiencing technical difficulties... part of the deal with the new rule test i guess.

the idea was if you can't make a double day, you can move it - like if you miss one you can shift it. but if you can shoot for the 31 day streak, no moving your days since you were able to ride every day. the "spirit" of the moveable day was for people who work freak hours or have like 5 families (ok maybe 2 families is more reasonable) to have a chance at riding on at least 2 double days.

so the deal is - if you ride on a double, you've used it, and you can't move it from there. if you use one in advance of a double day, and end up riding on that double day anyway - i'm gonna back out the points you shifted your day to, and double the points on the day it was set.

clear as mud?

This is well said. It's not meant to be an IRS chess match of moving numbers to maximize your points. The idea is to cover if you missed a double day. You have to call it bonus DD on the day you post your link. You *cannot* go back and say, "Oh yeah last Tuesday is my DD". Remember, Dave doesn't get paid to do this. Call it on the day, only if you missed a DD.

Note: The last DD of the month is *not* negotiable. So you have 4 DDs that are movable if you miss them. The last is not. The last day of the month you either ride for double points, or you don't.

I think AM should be in commuter. I think pro should be gps-only, though again, Oleg gets a pass because he's like Ansel Adams out there.

Another note. The most you can get in 1 ride is 15, which is 30 on a DD. So the 31 day bonus should be 31. That way, you won't have any moral issue with not riding all 31 to try to play the system for more points. If you skip a DD to get the bonus DD on the following day and it's raining, you'd get 30 points for that bonus DD. But if you ride all 31, you get more for not playing the system. I'm sure Dave understands. My point is that the 31 day streak should be worth 31.

Yes Sir.

I guess I do not need to double my points today because I’m going for 31 days.

I just would like to point out that if I wanted to win this, I would have to skip riding on a double day that I can’t ride for a long time, thus not to ride 31 days in a row.

It is all good because the goal for me from the beginning was achieving personal record and winning the contest was just a bonus.

Thank you for doing this again Dave.🙂

This makes sense. The full streak should be worth more than any single day. I've had training blocks in the past where I had to ride a certain number of days in a row and it's tough -- tougher on the psyche than on the body after a while. Mentally, I never have any issue with a single day of 6, 8, 12 or even more hours (whether my body will hold up is another question and more of a day-to-day thing for me personally.) But staring down a training block where I have to fit in a ride every day for an extended period of time takes something that is usually just fun and makes it a gauntlet, and that's tough to stare down when you have a full time job that doesn't include pedaling a bike for at least an hour a day. I have no excuse other than late meetings and laziness but I'm probably the exception -- most folks have family obligations and other responsibilities that make it a legitimate challenge. For those folks, the higher reward for carving out the time to ride every day makes sense.

Dave -

my points are updated as of today (3/3), but don't reflect today's 6pts....
unless i missed something..(my slow speed? - no lack of climbing)

----

oh, weather channel is saying windy tomorrow!!!!

Rode 65.4 miles in 4:05:31 so that's 8 points and since I'll be hopping around on my front wheel in Madison, WI next Sat I'd like to use my moveable bonus day and use it today for 16pts total. Damn Vreland!

Where in Madison? I'm going to be out there next weekend for work.

Starting really strong here. First ride of the month - 45 minutes. Go me! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/280157118 I guess I'm in for commuter.

The date reflects his Excel S/S as when he updated it. If you posted a ride after his big quoted post, then it means he hasn't added your points in. You can also look at the original post, at the bottom it will say when it was last updated. If you posted after that, he just hasn't gotten to it yet.

We've had a bunch of back door texting discussion about the rules and such. So we've been in very hush hush meetings all day.

Why did I ask for you to be added to my class? Like I need to finish even further from the top...
