Stoopid 50

I'm planning on going, but i haven't registered yet. It's some awesome riding, but very challenging -- it's actually a little less than 50 miles but you won't mind. Super fun and scenic.

Haven't registered yet, but I'm planning on making the trip. This will be my third year in a row, its a great event.

The VTC crew will be there. We got a cabin for the weekend. 1st time doing this race...psyched! Chris Scott always puts on a great event.

Cool it'll be good to see some locals out there. I'm psyched to ride some of the trails I've heard about. Should be a blast!

Here's my garmin file from last year. There are 3 main climbs.
  • Climb 1 @ Mile 10 - ~1000 feet over 3.25 miles
  • Climb 2 @ Mile 31 - ~1100 feet over 5.6 miles
  • Climb 3 @ Mile 40 - ~900 feet over 3.5 miles
The first climb really kicks up in grade at the end. The second climb goes on forever, the road keeps switching back so when you think your at the top, it turns and keeps going up. The major climbing is on fireroad and gravel road. In between the climbs is awesome single track.

This blurb from the bike reg post is spot on "After a controlled start from Aikens Cabins to Laurel Run Road, you will have to get it going up Bear Meadows Road to avoid a lockdown on the tight rocky ridgeline singletract on Tussey Ridge." The mass start heads up 2 miles or so of a paved/gravel climb then dumps right into several miles of technical single track. You don't want to get caught behind racers there if you have ambition of doing well in the race.

I hope we get a nice day. Two years ago it rained for the first half hour of the race, making for a slick day. Last year it monsooned for like 30 minutes mid race, it was so bad you could barely see a few feet in front of you. It was still good times regardless. See you guys out there :getsome:

The bigger climbs are steady. I wouldn't say there is anything real steep that I can recall, outside of some normal short punchy ups. After riding the ridge in the beginning of the race, there is an awesome single track descent that leads to one short section of steep trail that is heavily armored. I'm sure it is ridable, but its early enough in the race that there is still some traffic (at least for me) and everyone was walking it. Its not very long.

Hahahaha ok then register for the 6 Hours of Stewart. Besides it's much closer and you'll have 3+ weeks recovery.

You know that would be very keen of you and all and my only excuse was that it was sold out but unless you can move the race date, i have topolitely decline cause ill be surf ninja that week(end). I win.

I had to re-read that. then re-read it again very slowly.

A couple of Cadre will there. couple yrs ago after the rain made things slick, it got Ridiculously hot. There's a spring out there somewhere that saved my life...

Turns out I'm gonna miss it this year. A combination of factors is putting it off my calendar -- my sister is having a birthday party for my nephew on Saturday and it will be the first chance I get to meet my brand new niece (born just two weeks ago!) so I can't miss that. And if I had to drive out there and race on the same day, it would really suck (it's almost 4 hours from my place.) And then there is the small consideration that my body is a pile of charred ash after Saturday's Granogue Death March. So it wasn't a hard decision to pull the plug. I was looking forward to riding the course (although a friend told me on Saturday that they added a lot more fire road this year), but it just wouldn't be fun under the conditions I'd have to race in.

So anyone who is going out there - sorry, but there will be one less rider in your rearview mirror at the end! Have fun! 😀
