Strava App

I see Strava was mentioned on this site before. So I downloaded the app, and love it.

I don't have a bike computer, nor a Garmin. I have the Droid and I have been sampling other apps but never focused on them too much, or found the one I liked. Strava seems to give you a lot of choices between the app and the site, and it is all free.

Any thoughts or tips?

For the iPhone...

I haven't really found an app I like yet. Right now, I'm trying out Kinetic Lite and then email the gpx data to myself and upload into ridewithgps.com (for a standalone website, I like quite a bit; wish they had an iPhone app.)

I tried iMapMyRIDE, but the export function only does the route, not the ride; which was a deal killer for me.

I also tried Everytrail, which was okay. I may end up going back to that.

BikyCoach seemed to stop working in the middle of my ride.

I'm interested to see how you like Strava. Ditto on the 5 ride limit; but I may be willing to pay if it gets good reviews. Can you export rides out of the app or from the website?

I'm wondering if $250+ is worth it for a Garmin Edge or Forerunner....

Give MotionX GPS a try if you haven't already.

Strava is the goods

you guys know that strava has a socially competitive feature built in, right? my buddy that has a Garmin uses it on all our road rides. as more people join the strava network, his standings slowly sink. 😱

I seem to remember a limit of 5 uploads per month, which was a deal killer for me.

Yeah, it's 5 uploads a month if you use a Garmin, but that number doesn't seem to matter if you use your phone. I've saved dozens of rides from my iphone without Strava bitching at me.

Bunch of my friends back home are addicted to this app for the King of the Mountain stuff.

That is good to know.

Can you export track information?

worth the one time charge of 2.99

You guys were right, this is a good app. I particularly like the option to auto-pause a track when there is no movement detected.

Thanks.

Note: only problem I found with all the GPS apps is that speed on downhills can get grossly overstated. Just yesterday, I "hit" 334 mph on Long Hill Rd. 😉
