Tariffs...what to make of them.

This one struck me this morning. How do we feel about the White House basically doing everything they can to put a gag order on news outlets that do not promote the party line?

As someone who likes to read/listen to all sides, is this not problematic?
Listen, it's because these "news" agencies do nothing but criticize the president because they are too dense to understand his extremely complex role of chaos creator that will ultimately bring untold riches to the US. It's only the agencies like Fox (an admitted entertainment media news station?) that really understand the complexities of his plan that should be allowed to have access. Can't waste time with the other guys asking dumb questions.

Its not surprising me....Trump envies the other dictators around the world.....how guys like Putin can just have media people thrown out of windows....Bukele in El Salvador same thing.. Like Putin and Russia, Trump does have his own state run media tho....Fox news is truly something to behold in terms of shameless ass lathering. They don't even ask questions anymore, they just lavish praise upon daddy during press conferences lol.

I do find it rather entertaining...if not totally predictable....the same group of people who love trump...drive around with American flags and stickers on their trucks that say "We the people" are now so in love with authoritarianism.....Not that they would understand what the word means 🙂

Without regards to the current situation with the students, I’ve always been against private universities receiving federal funds. It boggles my mind why our taxes (which I do pay) go to colleges and universities worth hundreds of millions to billions when it’s hard for the working man to save and plan for their kids education (and then we pay even more with tuition), and retirement. the universities have huge endowments they could use for real good, but choose not to). They need to pick one…be a government university, or only use private funding. They almost surely use those government funds for research that I am ethically not ok with, as well as fraud, etc.
If you take out a student loan, you are being federally funded. While I agree with most of your statement, there are some valid reasons for the government to grant money to colleges/universities, many of these grants go to R&D for medical and science purposes.
Every US citizen should not be hassled, penalized, jailed, fined, or whatever, for their speech. If they commit a crime while exercising the free speech, such as assault, destruction of property, intimidation, etc., they should be charged for that crime, but without regard to the speech. But if someone is punching and kicking me while screaming, “FREE MARS,” yes, they need the police to take them away for the beat down.
Agreed, if someone is commiting a crime, free speech or not, they should be held accountable. I think Trump threatening to pull federal money because a college won't "toe the line" is insane. It's downright anti-American. There is no way around that.
I’m not sure about the laws/statutes for non citizens. I’m not researching tonight 🥱
I don't have any idea on what the law here is for non-citizens, but if they are peacefully protesting, I don't think they should face any consequences. If they are blocking traffic, that's a different story!

Trek is increasing prices by 10% because of tariffs….. thanks MAGA! Trump making cycling great again.

Looking at the Dow 3 month chart is pretty telling…. View attachment 259156

It is. The value (capitalization) of all the equity securities in the S&P used to be about 4X it's subset, the Dow. The S&P is about 80% of the US equity market.

The NASDAQ is a less material, different but overlapping set of corporations, that has become more and more significant over the decades.

The total capitalization of the global bond market dwarves the equity market.

Time will tell if this was THE bottom in US equities. I circled the volume capitulation in US ETFS (SPY, QQQ, DJI). The China ETF (FXI)however does not look finished in the near term. The US equities had increasing volume on the decline but also on the incline after with volume fading the last week or two. The China etc had increasing volume on the sell side with fading volume on the bounce meaning it's not being accumulated yet. I'm not predicting but it's possible the bottom is in for now(we may see a higher low on lower volume) for US markets. I feel China has much further to fall. I DO NOT however feel US markets have bottomed longer term. I can see this panning out over the next 1-2 years.

Putting this here instead of the Revel thread, but here are 2 recent statements from independent companies rooted in the bike industry. It’s hard to image that all of the small players are going to weather the storm.
