Tariffs...what to make of them.

Not taking sides here at all....but can someone explain why when Canada imposes a tariff on the US, everyone is totally fine with it....When US imposes a tariff on Canada, everyone loses their freaking mind?
Here is why we didn't bat an eye when Canada put high tariffs on US goods previously. The previous Canadian tariffs on US goods were on Dairy Products, Poultry and eggs, and grain products. All of these things were long standing trade policies by Canada to support domestic industries. These are products that they believe they can produce at a similar or lower cost and directly support local domestic economic growth. Despite the tariffs, we were still a strong exporter of these goods to Canada (yay revenue... in fact in the US, this sector reached record high revenues in 2024). We already had a trade deficit with Canada of $64.3 billion dollars and our imports were primarily in energy products, such as oil and natural gas. All of which were necessary to reduce energy costs to consumers in the United States especially in the northeast where we import more energy products than we export in comparison to most regions in our country. The US accounted for 78% of Canadian exports in 2023 and we accounted for 50% of their imports... seems like a decent partnership... I truly don't understand why we want to shake this up or why drug trafficking and illegal immigration is lumped somehow into these tariff conversations.

As a consumer, any time I hear tariff, I think of a major loss for us. Energy costs will increase. We will be selling significantly less goods to Canada. Two of which were interesting to find out were that they held 73% of our truck exports and 36% of our fruit and vegetable exports. I personally don't think it is hard to see why everyone is losing their freaking minds. Our deficit likely gets larger due to these tariffs and these tariffs are likely to threaten more jobs than they can create and massively harms the major integration of our auto industries with Canada and Mexico. My immediate concerns are that we need to rely on their energy products since there isn't a quick fix to ramp up energy production in the US. We also could potentially sit on a surplus of agricultural goods due to trade wars without any significant drop in prices domestically since these large corporations will not want revenue to plummet. Considering that conservatives typically want free markets with less government influence, it is so odd to see how the MAGA movement is in full support of limiting markets even further.

We need to eliminate careful consideration of complex political, economical, and environmental relationships government waste if we’re gonna make America great again!

Waste has to be done through congress like Newt and Clinton. The DODGE bags are going to cost us more later on. Trump raised our debt 7.8 trillion during his first 4 years with the SALT 2017 tax cuts which should run out 2025. Which anyone who lives in NJ knows you can only write off a total of 10k on your federal tax return. His corporate tax cut let 500 corporations pay 0. Now I am a fiscal conservative on revenue, but you should exchange $1 of cuts to a $1 of revenue. The Republicants when in charge increase our debt but lower taxes for Billionaires, top 1% and corporations. Just saying........

Well, in the last 30 days, trumps deal maker policies has eliminated over 3000 points from the DOW. Next month’s job numbers will reflect all the government layoffs and firings. All these people will go on unemployment and will reduce personal spending and this will also affect economic indicators…. No way we are not seeing a trumpcession now.🙁IMG_3399.png

Curious how the trump supporters feel about him going after the law firms of his political opponents? Is there some actual justification for this or simple retaliation?

LOL you never question daddy... Daddy knows best

So I can't keep up with all the day to day absurdity... I mean it probably would all be interesting back in the days when there were things like ethics rules and such...
Our president is filming ads on the white house lawn to sell cars for a ceo who gave him 270 million dollars? Wait what?

Oh this one too lol... As a long time stern listener... I heard the mel Gibson tapes... No fucking way that man should be within a mile of a firearm

By "going after", he revoked their security clearances.
I think we would all agree that any law firm with a security clearance should be ethical and trustworthy.
Perkins-Coei is the firm that fabricated the Russia Collusion hoax, so why let them have the privileged of security clearance? They don't need a security clearance to litigate election law.

The democrats made attempts to disbar lawyers who worked for Trump and revoke medical licenses from doctors who disagreed with Fauci on covid.
Were you okay with that?

Why is it ok in politics to justify bad behavior by saying others have had bad behavior in the past? It’s mind-boggling that this kind of justification is not only normal but expected.

That guy ordered a strike on a Taliban installment so it’s ok if this other guy indiscriminately kills all minorities. As a fabricated example.

It is quite often the only thing Trump supporters rely on to justify his actions. It’s like everyone knows the guy is destroying everything he can. It’s just some people are ok with it and others are not. But generally everyone agrees, deep down, it ain’t right.

They all blame each other and people gets pulled in it instead of demanding to fight for us. What happened to government for the people by the people? Oh, sorry...I got all mixed up with different country.

Even if the the Russian collusion was a hoax there are proper ways to disbar an attorney without using an Executive Order. I doubt every attorney and employee in the firm was part of your so called hoax. In addition to removing security clearances the order also bars the firm's employees from federal buildings, and prohibits federal employees from engaging with firm's staff. Thus a DC law firm can essentially no longer do business in DC.

Do this to one firm and why would any other firm ever represent anyone trying to go against trump or the government?

Are you talking about the voter fraud cases? The 40, 60, 90+ cases (I can't remember how many) that found absolutely no voter fraud? I don't recall any executive order against those attorneys or their firms. Do you? Or are you talking about something else?

Guess you didn’t read the Muller report, you just sheepeopled up and let other people tell you what it said. Fact, Manifort( trump’s campaign director) gave a Russian intelligence officer thumbs drives with campaign target research data so the Russians could buy targeted adds. The Russian’s bought adds in these markets and helped trump get elected. Callusion was not a hoax. As for the doctors, if a doctor suggested people take horse de wormer paste for a Covid virus, you should probably look into that doctor’s license. That or maybe rename them witch doctors. You should probably take a long look at your information sources. I have to ask, these tariffs are isolating American, is that making America great again?

LOL...just a WEEEEEEEEEE bit of an over simplified version there?
The democrats made attempts to disbar lawyers who worked for Trump
And why was that? Take Rudy for example....what was he disbarred for? Trying to help overturn an election....who disbarred him? A federal court...not a presidential EO

Were you okay with that?
I do enjoy how daddy trump, the all powerful.... seemed to be powerless during covid....all sins like making a phony vaccine and poisoning everyone with it.....that was not him....it was all fauci's fault LOL. I have to remember the things I supported trump doing...maga now has to cover up and shift blame for bc it doesn't fit the narrative.

I am not speaking for everyone @Norm, but my assumption is not that people are justifying bad actions by saying well your team did it so that means our team should. Cuz like you said that isn't legit. (and of course there are some that are doing just that, sadly)

I always look at it as calling out hypocrisy. You are calling out their team for bad actions (rightfully as you should) but when your team did it you were completely silent.

That's about the only time I jump into these convos. Either to call out hypocrisy or to point out a lack of facts/context that completely changes the argument someone is making. Like I did w/ @UtahJoe yesterday. I thought he was missing context so I asked about it, we went back and forth, and all is well. I didn't assume he was being malicious or spreading bad info, I assumed he might not have been aware of the additional detail I provided so I thought it would be valuable. No harm no foul.

I don't know why I do this to myself? I guess I'm unintentionally trying to mediate convos so they aren't going off the rails? At the end of the day, the answer to my letting myself get involved probably lies in my signature below...

The fact you still think Ivermectin is a horse medicine only shows the level of propaganda and brainwashing you've been subjected to.

The slightest bit of research will show you it is a Nobel Winning medicine for humans considered one of the most influential drugs ever brought to market (arguably second to only penicillin). It also time again has proven to display one of the highest safety profiles of all drugs.

And that research is not limited to right-leaning sources only. Even left-leaning sources align with this.

I don't remember who thought AIs were infallible (unless they were fed lies, which in itself is a hilarious take), but both ChatGPT (proclaimed here as the best and infallible, tho I proved that wrong quite easily) and Google Gemini, also agree. Why did I pick these 2? Because they are understood to be left-leaning and have in the past suppressed right-leaning views.

I agree, if your doctor prescribes you the animal formulation and dosage of Ivermectin you should surely run for the hills, or not take advice from your vet. But if your doctor is prescribing the human formulation and dosage, you probably have a very competent medical professional caring for you.
