Tariffs...what to make of them.

You're the one stating that there are big wins but not offering any examples. I'm clearly on the other side of this debate. I could come up with negative examples, but you said you didn't want any more of those.

Arguably the biggest win was the election itself. Trump is lucky he didn't have to run against the most popular presidential candidate in history in Joe Biden and his 81,000,000 legitimate votes.

Pls do quote text me where I said there are, in your words, “big wins,” I’ll wait.

What I DID say was that no president ever has been or ever will be perfect. So I asked for some wins to see if those who are so negative can find something good to say. To me at least, that signals critical thinking, I.e. might I possibly be wrong about something and if so, how/where? Because, if you can’t come up with any, that infers you believe the president/administration (sorry I’m using these interchangeably, I really mean the latter) is 100% wrong in every decision they’ve made and action they’ve taken.

And being 100% wrong is a type of perfection. Even the most incompetent person will still, by pure chance, be right sometimes. It may not be intentional, but nonetheless, they’ll get some things right.

So, sorry, but logically, I do not believe perfection exists. And since you infer you do, we can’t really have a conversation because those dichotomies probably won’t find a common ground. And as such we should respect and save each other’s time.

I’m not here to convince anyone of anything, I really was curious if those who are so negative could find any glimmer, no matter how slight.

I’m not a big political person, I think I’ll stick to my family, hockey, mtb, beer, comedy, warm sunny weather., etc., things that bring me joy. Talking politics really doesn’t cuz there’s so much division.

Nope, I asked first, nice deflective non answer. Like I said, there’s tons of negativity in this thread, and I pleaded for some positivity. I get it, you think the current admin is 100% awful and everything they do is the complete opposite of what you’d do. I however don’t believe in absolutes. The last admin wasn’t perfectly good or perfectly bad, nor is this one.

This why I don’t get into political conversations cuz they’re anything but, instead it’s one side talking AT the other side. My last sentence basically foreshadowed the answers like this that would come in. You only comprehended what you wanted and ignored the rest.

I’m going back to basking in the glow of an epic hockey weekend and doing some sort of anti rain dance to hopefully get these dang trails back to primo riding conditions!
This is silly. What are the big wins? If there are any, please enlighten.

And let's say that we actually are saving money by cutting down on waste, fraud, whatever (they haven't shown proof of any actual fraud or waste)... If the only thing they are doing with those savings is giving tax breaks to the rich, I'd rather them just leave things as is. Why do we need to gut medical research, fire thousands of employees, and cut funds that go to people who need it? We're cutting all this to give tax breaks to the rich? That's not a win.

They should start by looking at all the government contacts with the private sector, that's where all the fraud is. Not at trying to destroy all the programs that protect us. Where'd musk start? With all the agencies that are investigating his companies that are awarded billions in contacts?

It doesn't make sense why people are ok with this. They aren't giving you tax free overtime or tips, they aren't giving you tax breaks unless you make over 400k a year, grocery prices are still up, but the rich will get tax breaks!

Where's the win? I'm not rich. Correct me if I'm wrong. I just don't get it

Of course you'd say that. You're an evil bot! I hear you're next in line for the new software upgrade, which includes built in DeepSeek and a more natural sounding sarcasm module.

here are the daily postings from DOGE of what they are cutting:

I shrug my shoulders a bit - we did this to the energy sector four years ago when Biden got in. Coal, oil field workers, etc. Then to anyone that did not want the COVID shot.

Government is too damn fat right now. Those jobs come with pensions that cost the tax payers for an eternity.

I am sympathetic - but my job representing many private businesses they all keep telling me finding qualified people to work is one of their hardest problems to solve. Many of my colleagues in my industry as well as related went to work from home Gov. jobs over the last five years - I even thought about it.

We obviously aren’t going to agree, but the last administration hired 80,000 employees to audit the tax payer - I am a bigger fan of Elon auditing government. If ten percent of what we are being told of wasteful spending is true - then I am for it.

My taxes sure as hell have not gone down over the last four years, my salary has stayed the same but was raped by inflation and everything around me skyrocketed while I was told it was Trumps fault🤷‍♂️
He signed the stimmie checks doh

OK, you win. I'll go with the staff reductions at the FAA. While it may seem like poor timing following the worst US airline crash in over 20 years, it's actually a win because one time like 30 years ago, my company hosted a meeting with some FAA guys and one of them cut in front of me in the coffee line. Revenge, finally!

So like the @SmooveP you didn’t actually comprehend my post, you read what you wanted to. Nor did you comprehend my follow-up (unless u hadn’t seen it yet then my bad, retract this last bit)

Oh yeah? What’d I win? Other than y’all not being able to substantiate your claims I asked for “big wins” and ur petty responses reinforcing the exact point I was making the whole time? Loving your self own, much appreciated.

Sorry @Johnny Utah and @Doom and the one or two others I may have missed, I gotta kick all this fun back to you. Was really looking for a sliver of reason and actual back and forth but the echo chamber on this topic is deafening. I don’t know how y’all do it haha. It’s all god, like JH has said multiple times, it’s all good natured, no malice, but not my cup of tea.

Meaningless game, but c’mon Team USA, crush the Swedes!

Your argument is that he can't always make the wrong decision? Cause then he'd be perfect? And that doesn't exist? Is it that I'm too stupid to find the needle in a haystack of bad decisions? Is this a political discussion or a philosophical one? I'm sorry, are you not here for political discussion at all? Have you even paid any attention to anything that's going on, or are you just here for a 'gotcha' moment? Is that all you guys have is an argument of semantics?

I'll just wait for you to enlighten me with some big wins. Cause I haven't found any yet. This administration is still perfectly wrong. It just gets worse and worse. No silver lining. Billionaires will get the big wins, is that what you're talking about?

All good - I have been sick for the past three weeks, I also canceled cable so beside a handful of people and work, this is my human interaction. I do enjoy sharing thoughts though. Once I feel better and the weather breaks I will be hiking and on the bike more.

I had Flu-B for a week or so and started to feel better, then went all over NJ to see customers. Woke up on Valentine’s Day with Norovirus and finally started to feel better today. I would definitely stay away from Norovirus - that was an experience.

I listen to a lot of this stuff as I drive, all different podcasts. Usually go across the country once or twice a year as well so I eat podcasts up.

My job usually feeds us tons of market reports as well - plus I hear findings from customers and trade associations all day. Guess I am surrounded by it. Not saying I am correct with what I am saying - just what I am seeing/hearing.

Always love to try and find new media!

There were a lot of good points - I think we are all still waiting for you to show us how it gets worse and worse as well and highlight where all this white supremacy is.

I don’t think that is going to happen, but I expect more posts about it. I mean I get it, if Trump gave you $700k and a Cheeseburger you are going to find a problem with it - you two are not going bowling together and definitely will not be playing Team Darts at the Ground Round.

Is Daniel Carver still alive - he was a pretty famous white supremacist. He was on Hollywood Squares I believe.

Can you provide a Top Ten “ White Supremacist” list we can look into?

Pardoning proud boys and oath keepers. Dismantling DEI. From the heart salutes. Welcoming white refugees and kicking out the colored ones.

Jimmy Carter was a great great person
Jimmy Carter was not a good president

Joe Biden was not a bad person
Joe Biden was a mediocre career politician, who was already aging fast when he was elected and attempted to just do the ‘opposite of Trump’ as his whole plan.

Donald Trump is a contemptible shit stick of a human
Donald Trump is the ultimate ‘populist’ putting his entire being behind whatever views he thinks his voters ( base and otherwise ) want. Gives zero shits about honesty or historic guardrails ( and likes to troll more than playing golf )

We got the GOP in power so they get to run with the ball. Rules will be ignored but laws should not be broken. Lots of GOP folks in congress are ok with their voters taking it in the chin as long as it’s Trump doing so not Congress. Hence the lack of concern about prior budget being tossed to the wind.

Medicare/SocSec will be unscathed (agriculture and defense should do ok)

Lots of loaded statements here IMHO. Some we already addressed.

You and I are not going to agree on anything at this point in time - that’s okay. I am of the opinion no matter what Trump does - you are not going to agree. I also don’t think you are going to look into anything he is doing or anything is trying to say was weaponized against him. You’re allowed, but I am not going to respond to you as much.

If you are looping everyone that support him, be it as President or MAGA or whatever else as a “White Supremacist” is fairly ignorant in my opinion, and kind of falls into what I feel like you are upset about. Your allowed.
