The BearScat 50!!!!!!!

Bearscat course claims 3 souls (lost), 2 tubes. Caught a rattle snake coming down Pines resulted in this:

Thanks to Robson and JohnBaumann for helping me make it out alive.

we ran in to a 5+ foot timber rattler on 'pines' last week. EABODS almost got bit. Did you really hit a snake or just a stick? I'm hoping you got 'him' there is a VTC ransom on that bad boy.

Just joking around. It was a stick. I might go back of the ransome is high enough.

Fun!

Wow, this should get very interesting the second time round. I've changed my strategy from racing to just surviving. Excellent job on the course!

I had no trouble following the posted gps tracks. Only a few missed turns, just had to back track a little. Though crossing over the pipe line construction was a little disorienting. This one was quite easy to follow, no over lapping or crossovers. There's is no way I would of found my way around with out it. Also did have and old school map, just incase...

I managed to ride the course today with only one wrong turn what added 2 extra miles. Stopped a lot to check every turn but my moving time was 3:30min.
I may go again tomorrow am if anyone wants to join.

Rode the course this afternoon. Lot was full so parked by the Appalachian trailhead. Some things of note for the organizers:

1) The mud section before the pipeline is ridable. It's still muddy, but I didn't have to unclip .. I did however pay careful attention to the best lines. On Saturday, I had to dismount a few times.

2) The 2nd pipeline cross after Pines is un-crossable, practically speaking. 1st you have to walk through ripped up pipeline .. then there is a big mound of dirt that you have to scale to get to the new trail. It is possible I crossed at the wrong point, but I don't think so as I was following the GPS track exactly. i.e. the mound of dirt might be new.

3) After you get out of Red Dot and turn left on Cherry Ridge, the log over there has been booby-trapped, kind of. There used to be some extra branches there to help, but now it's just one big log sitting above the ground.

4) There is a tree down before the 1st rooty climb in the single track after Banker Trail.

Technically it's a re-route. You are on pumphouse for a short period then off and then on again. The re-route bypasses the HaB section about 1/2 mile in.

I got stored up in the ole noggin. hope to go out monday am,.

so will pumphouse be open to bikes after the race? I know its hiker only trail right now.

The bypass will likely continue to be open to bikes after the race, as will the rest of PH out to Cherry Ridge. The Hike-a-Bike that it avoids will be hiking only. There will eventually be signage saying as much

1) Whether or not Cabin stays in the race will depend on how well it dries out this week. The call will be made on Sat. I hope it stays in because the downhill on Tombstone is a blast, and I'd hate to see that gone as well (if Cabin is removed, the race will cross the Pipeline at the top of Rattlesnake, straight into Pines).

2) That should be fixed by race day.

3) Fixed

4) Fixed

I'm excited for Sunday - not sure what I've got myself and some friends into but this will be a blast.

Tied into the bearscat event I have been raising funds for Michael J Fox's Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

I'm making a final push and appreciate any donations towards the cause:

Good for you, Dave!

At a time when we're(me) all focused and obsessed with race issues, you are able to think of and help others.

You can count on my support.... and on joining you for the self imposed torture of Sunday.

One entry for Bearscat available

I know this is last minute but I cannot make the race and have permission to pass on my entry. PM me if interested.
