The DIY thread - DIYourself

I ran this by my wife, but got shut down.

This is what we ended up with.

The range originally was going to be against the wall and we tiled the whole backsplash behind it but then she saw the SS backsplash /warming tray combo option and that was that.

The section above the range hood is custom made since the hood kit didn’t come with any kind of transition piece so that was just more money I had to burn.

And for the record Viking stuff sucks balls that oven and stove have been repaired so many times I lost count. And somewhere in the DIY thread I showed how I replaced the range hood fan myself a year or so ago for the 2nd time since 2006.

Since we're all showing our cooking appliance layout. This is ours. GE Cafe gas oven with convection. Replaced the cooling fan 1x and a burner that warped from many uses. Top is a dirty mess because we cook a lot. Backsplash too, but can't see it's dirty.

Can confirm. I've seemingly replaced most of of the electronics on my stupid range. Burner igniters that don't work, burner igniters that stay on after the burner is lit, broiler doesn't light, only one side of the oven burners lights. Range hood design is ridiculous with the filters really awkward to remove and reinstall. I do pretty routine cleanings of the entire thing and I still have grease collecting on (and in!) the lightbulb over the burner that gets used the most, so that has to be wiped down literally every time I cook. I guess at least it looks reasonably nice.

I can say the same for Thermador cooktops and ovens. We had to change out many ignitors and burners on tops, but we stayed with the company to match appliances. The oven was even worse, it was glitchy and would sporadically lock the oven with food inside. One thanksgiving, I had a turducken baking inside for hours and it decided to go into lock and clean mode and trap my birds. What worked was to turn off the oven from the breaker box and wait for it to reset. Conversely, we now have a cheapo Frigidaire cooktop which has worked flawlessly for over 12 years. Though I'm considering a full reno of the kitchen and bathrooms but prices are insane even doing most of the work on my own.

Glad to see the fancy 'commercial' appliances don't seem to be worth it. We ordered all LG stuff. I like to cook and I am sure it will work just fine.

High end appliances are silly. A $10K stove or frig doesn't heat or cool any better than ones that cost $2K. Something mechanical like a dishwasher you will get better performance and reliability.

holy crap what's the chances you have my identical setup including the backsplash/shelf!

I have the filter removal/replacement sequence down to a science after struggling with the same thing the first few times but it is ridiculous especially if I wasn't 6'2'.
