The Indoor Cyclist's support thread

Made a spontaneous decision to join a Zwift race this morning as part of the new “Zwift unlocked” event. I haven’t done much racing online at all I mostly do structured workouts especially with all the training I did for my cancer charity event.

Based on my current scoring im in what would be considered D category but I was pleasantly surprised I could hang up front and almost got the win but got clipped with 25m to go on the hard uphill finish. I’ll need to pay better attention to the attacks next time. But happy with the result.

Might need to try one of these every other week as an extra fitness boost especially when the real crap weather hits.

Input on what you have…

Garmin Tacx and Wahoo Kickr compare in price. Seems most have Wahoo. Any input on Garmin?

I am a Garmin unit/watch gal so curious.

not sure which submodels, but compatibility with Zwift cog and controls for virtual shifting would be a filter for my choice.

Was going to say the same thing.

@Robin

Not sure which models you’re comparing and I don’t have much experience with either brand trainer but the virtual shifting takes a lot of the headaches out of the equation.

I’m going to guess the more expensive trainers for garmin might be the only ones that are compatible but just make sure you compare apples to apples.

If you are planning on focusing only on Zwift then look for one labeled Zwift Ready. Good article here:

Virtual shifting is pretty much limited to Zwift. You don’t technically need the Zwift Cog to use virtual shifting in Zwift (just need the Click shifter) but installing the Cog kinda locks you into using only Zwift since it replaces your rear cassette and mechanical shifting goes away
