This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

We've sold hundreds of bikes this week and last weekend. So many people are actually bored enough to ride!!
yup, other shops that I frequent reporting the same. in fact inventory is getting low and repair workload is near pre-Fondo level mayhem.

then again i guess in a few months a lot of pre-owned "barely ridden" bikes might be for sale once the winter rolls around....

Yeah, not surprising, but seeing tons of peoples in the parks.
Lots of families. Silver lining.
Went for a hike today and came across a group of about 9 asian hikers. It's very common to see in Harriman and Bear Mtn. They are all usually over 50 and barely speak english, which makes me think they are tourists? They didn't seem too concerned about social distancing. Me and my family on the other hand practically climbed up a rock face to distance ourselves. ?

Do they wear loafers and other dress shoes like many i have seen at the Delaware water gap in the past? I always found that facinating.

Yesterday my son was a total mess with my wife as his teacher...I have a much different approach....Here is your stack of work.... would you like to see a television today? GET IT DONE!......This worked much better..albeit with some occasional tears. That said, tomorrow he gets my mom as a teacher....She used to rip my homework up and throw it at me if it wasnt neat enough...once when she did this I punched my kitchen table and yelled FUCK!!!!....she came in, slammed my head into the table and knocked me onto the kitchen floor.....I hope Bob is feeling motivated tomorrow 🙂

We have 4 kids and have also been losing our shit. I still have to work full time, so my wife has taken on "teaching duties". Today she realized this isnt just reviewing homework, she/we actually need to be the instructors. Homework reinforces things that at taught in school.... in the matter of a few days we're now into the "teaching at home" phase. Kids dont learn by watching a video or reading a paragraph, they learn by explanation (like when I explained in many ways what a "square foot" really is to my 8 year old today). They're no longer "doing homework", they've already reached the point of not knowing what the f@#$ they're supposed to do. Its not the teachers fault either, they didnt see this coming.

This is painful for all of us. I feel your pain. Deep breath and remember it's not the kids fault. They'll probably be telling "tales" to their grandchildren about these days.

So out of curiosity....what does the re-supply scene look like considering most bikes come from china...more or less (Taiwan)

What i'm hearing is that there is a 6 week production loss that they need to make up. Despite what some people think, these people are driven to make really good consumer goods and in a hurry. I think we will see some shortages for sure and the shops they rely solely on one brand may see some difficulties this spring/summer.

The good news is that I've never seen as many people on bikes since lance made people think about bikes again.

There is such a thing as mental fatigue which leads to other problems. @Norm said this many posts ago, go read a fiction book. I suggest the Wheel of Time. 15 books, it will keep you occupied and hopefully not panicking. There are a few on here, who love to say they're not alarmists, yet they continue to preach freaking out. Have a beer, with some vitamin c, stay to yourself.

The first book of this series is one of the best fantasy books I've ever read (note, it's been a long time, it may suck). By book 8 or so I lost my shit with what's-her-name pulling her braids and boxing people's ears or whatever, I couldn't take it anymore.

Hahaa yes. I do agree the pulling of the braid gets old but it's still a fantastic series, especially reinvigorated when Brandon Sanderson takes over. I'm on book 12 for the 3rd time. This time I'm doing the audio book and I realized I skipped over a lot when reading it myself.
