Time to ride!

It's almost March and with the start of the 2011 road racing season kicking off in less than a month and the first mountain bike race in less than two months I wanted to start a thread for the ladies out there who may be interested in group trail rides once the snow melts and the trails dry out and are safe to ride on. I feel it's never to soon to get the wheels rolling. Post up ideas, bike set up, training woes, locations, whatever! Lets get it started! :getsome:

RC ... 🙂

My thoughts are on the road.... I can't tease myself with the thought of trail riding, yet. Who knows when they'll be rideable again??? May?? June???
Let's get some road ride going.

I can't wait to get on the trails - but realistically, the roads will have to do for now...

I'm good to go most weekends - so if you do any road rides, I would love to join.

Great post RC. Even if trails are not ready yet, March can be a great time to get some rides in on the road. The days are getting longer and a tad warmer. Although, on the road it may still feel like winter, so do not put your winter clothes away just yet.

Once snow is gone and trails dry out, you will already have some rides under your belt, and will be so stoked to ride in the woods. Spring will be here soon.

Pix! Are we still in sunny Arizona? 😡 When I was thinking about this post I had you in mind, since most times your our fearless leader! I think, for now, a road ride would be a super idea. Perhaps meeting at Harriman State Park since that seems to be accessible for most. Lets see if anyone would be interested. I've never did a ride in Harriman but I would imagine there's a few nice climbs.

Yeh, I'm not trying to rub it in, but I'll be back to the icebox in a few days. I would be up for a Harriman ride when I am back. Maybe Perkins Dr is melted.

I'm a Facebooker now Pix (I have no clue about it) and I've seen the amazing pictures. Looks like you guys are having a great time! It's OK you can rub it in
 It was a steamy 4 degrees here this morning, see ya when you get back

Perkins was ridable as of Feb 20 according to 6thElement:

I rode it on 2/12, but I had to hop the barrier (barrier has been up all winter as far as I know) and there were a few icy sketchy spots. I never got off the bike, but almost ate it once on the way up. I figure conditions right now will be similar after the snow we had this week and get better through the weekend.

Sunday morning 2/27/11
Join us for a 10am moderate paced, no drop 30-60 mile ride from Pedal Sports in Oakland. We'll pass the lot at approx 28 miles for anyone who needs to jump off. Hills and speed will depend largely on how bad we're hurting and how badly we need to prove something to whomever shows up to hurt us.

Either way, It's always a fun group. PM me by 9am for a contact #

Sandy, Sundays aren't usually good for me. My day to get free is Sat. Maybe I'll join one of your weekday rides.

Sounds like a fun time, not enough notice Sandie 😡 snowed 3 inches last night, Tommy and I have a 3 mountain 4500+/40 mile ride planned for this afternoon if the roads are safe to ride on ... Wheels down 1pm :getsome:
I just love the "wheels down" saying 😀
See ya soon, Sandie

It would have been great to see you RC! Shalini called me at 10:30 pm looking to plan a ride so I posted it knowing these are desperate times for people who miss their bikes.

YoBikeLady happened to be in the area and came out for a spin. We did a 28 mile loop and instead of heading back to Oakland we went straight under 287 and up Skyline Drive since YoBikeLady wanted to see what all the hype was about. She did great! The backside of Skyline into Ringwood is graded and unridable on skinnies so you need to ride the remaining 18 inches of shoulder. Unfortunately, that 18" was covered with gravel, sticks and debris and the penalty for error was either a high speed 1 foot drop-off to the right into a ditch or a battle to retain control of the bike and keep spokes from breaking on the grading to the left all while flying down the 2 mile long 14% grade. The word that went through my mind was, "Holy Fcuk!"
It was an experience we're likely to remember for a few weeks at least.😉

We opted to ride back to Oakland the long way, via Ringwood Ave, with a modest 43 miles. I'm glad she wanted to do Skyline because it broke the ice for me and I'm even happier for the impending downpours tomorrow so nobody else will be looking for me to give them a tour! Rest Day! Woohoo!!!!😀

Hey Sandie!
What's with the last minute ride? You just don't want the rest of us to share in your fun, do you? 🙂

I had an super fun weekend riding with Julie on Saturday and Julie and Cyndi on Sunday. We were on 9W on Saturday (I beat the crap out of Julie...lol). We took a tour of NJ yesterday...Brookdale to Mountainside to Echo Lake Park to Watchung Reservation, to Bernards, to the Swamp...I don't know where the heck we were but it was a blast.

Weekend totals: 117.86 miles, 10,670 feet of climbing. We need to kick it up....

Hope to see you soon!
TC

What can I say? I was too beat from a hard week to deal with the likes of you and J-Wow and Cyndi. Besides, I just wanted to get in more hill work. Unfortunately, most of that hill work was more akin to practicing trackstands. Do you know I can ride at 2.1mph and NOT fall over? That's skillz my friend, and skillz I got.
