Verizon Droid

I need to find a way to get rid of my enV Touch and get the Droid... we just started our 2 year contract with new phones in October; so it'll be a while 🙁

For you Droid guys... does it really multitask? Can you listen to music, surf the web, minimize the browser to send a text, etc? That's my only real gripe with the enV... i didn't realize its not a multi-tasker.. makes me miss my bb

I'm listening to music and typing this on the Droid now..

I called Verizon and they gladly bumped my "New Every Two" date forward a few weeks to allow me to order the DROID today at the discounts. As many here have suggested, all you gotta do is ask. Reading this thread gave me a bad case of "gear lust." This new phone will satisfy all my techno-gadget internet needs.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get Verizon to give me the full discount for new every two a few months early?

OK, I'm wrong. I guess Verizon does have its limits. A few months? Nope, it looks like they won't do it. A few weeks? YES, they'll tweak your "New Every Two" date.

They bumped me 4 months 😀 1 week in and I still love the phone. I'm keeping my eye open for a case but nothing too exciting out there yet (admittedly I've been neck deep in work the last week...But how many cases can come out in the first week?). I did ored Ghost Armor but havent had the chance to put it on yet (f work) I did order a car mount on Friday, I should have it by Tues I think. Did I mention the nav rules? This phone has exceeded my expectations!

App of the day.. i music...

Download any song. for free.
not sure how long this will last, but get it while you can.

Ok I am looking for a new phone. I am debating about getting and Iphone or the droid all though I am nto that big a fan of the Iphone. Does the droid have the ability to auto connect to a bluetooth device? My Venus did this with my truck and loved it my alias doesn't and it infuriates me. The next is does anyone know if there will be a way for developers to port iphone apps to the andriod OS? There are a lot of mtb and cycling apps right now that would be great if they could be ported to work on andriod.

Check out droidforums.net you can probably find those answers. I dont use blue tooth in my car so I couldn't say

I thought that just about every cheapo cell phone these days would autoconnect bluetooth. I can verify that on the Droid, when I turn on a bluetooth device that has previously been paired, that the phone will auto-connect.

As for apps, the Iphone has over 100,000. The Android platform has about 10,000 last I heard. How any of these are actually useful is debatable and many of the apps are basicaly duplicates of each other. A developer has to spend his time customizing an app for each platform. There are already quite a few cycling & training apps on Android right now.

Another big consideration in the Droid vs. Iphone debate is which network do you want to be on?

Just got one today...so far this things takes the cake.

Now just downloading Eclipse, Android SDK, and thinking of things I need that aren't already done.

This is the MY reason for Droid over iPhone. I can develop for it as a hobby without investing large quantities of money. Well that, and the fact that Verizon's coverage area pretty much stomps all over AT&T.

and AT&T brings the truth about Verizon's shortcomings to the general public...

I personally would hate not to be able to access data and voice at the same time...:popcorn::popcorn:

Who cares. The Iphone is banished to the Island of Misfit Toys because it can't get a signal.

Are you being serious?

Do you really browse the web and talk on the phone at the same time?
Most apps I use (Exchange email, gmail, weather) are pushed to the phone. So when I'm on a call the info is already there... and I am able to view it while on a call.
Very rarely do I need to actually make a data call when on a voice call.
But it is true that in the CDMA world, one of the commandments state "thou shall not simultaneously do voice and data".

Unless you use Google voice.....
AVAILABLE ON THE DROID!!!
Not on AT&T because AT&T's network cant handle it

And not to turn this into a pissing match. But every person who has an iphone and does a lot of data use depends on its wifi capability. I always hear iphone users asking what the WEP/WPA key is...
droid users can actually rely on VZW 3G.

And another thing. The AT&T commercial with one of the olsen ( I mean Wilson) twins is weak as hell.
The Misfit Toys commercial blows it away 😀😀😀

its a PITA to do screen shots on this thing, but it looks fine.
The unread threads are in bold....

But just looking at the normal site on the droid is fine.

Yeah, the mobile skin I picked up isn't great (e.g. unread threads...and quite a few other annoyances). I need to find a better one or spend some time tweaking this one...I think I want to go for a similar look/feel to the mobile wiki. I was hoping to get this done before it went public, but somebody got bored the DAY after I turned it on and typed in m.mtbnj.com--it wasn't even 24 hours before the cat was out of the bag 😀

One of the reasons I created m.mtbnj.com, instead of auto-detecting a mobile device and forcing you to the mobile skin, was because I knew some folks out there (a few iPhone users I know), were generally okay with the regular skins on their devices. So this way, it is your choice...m.mtbnj.com if you want mobile skins and www.mtbnj.com if you want the regular stuff on your mobile.
