Verizon Droid

wow. i am going to check this out. this may able to get me through my need for an iPhone

Me too. I'm an Apple whore though. I may have enough MacBooks, Ipods, Imacs, and G3/4/5 desktops to not HAVE to buy an Iphone:hmmm:

I'm checking my plan right now.

Yeah, that is golden. I was recently looking at picking up a GPS too. Not anymore! I'm really suprised that verizon stepped up and is allowing an unlocked phone on their network. I think it will pay off in the long run if this phone & the other coming up are the real thing.

I'm in exactly the same boat. Although the free gps in nice, I still think the car gps still has its place. If you're just hanging around NJ, then you'll probably be fine with just the phone, but say you're driving to ride in the middle of PA. What's the 3G service like out there? No service, no realtime navigation. It does cache the route you searched for when within service range, but I'm not sure if its not worth just dropping the extra $150 for a car gps to have that piece of mind that you'll always get gps.

Well I guess I'll still need the car gps when i want to bike in northeast new mexico mr smarty pants. In all seriousness, I just watched the video after posting and that is one sick gps app. I'll wait and see before drinking too much of the verizon kool aid though. Those marketing companies get paid a lot of money for a reason.

29er or die :getsome:

If I was going to road trip, I'd snag a nice high end GPS from best buy and then return it when I'm done 😱

You can wait for the reviews, but this phone lives up the hype. 😀

If it relies on the 3G signal, it is not a GPS.

When I want peace of mind I print out the route from an online source before leaving. $150 saved.

ok j, spill it. that's the second obscure reference you've made about this which makes me think one of three things:
1. you're an insider.
2. you're full of sh!t
3. you read the BGR report just like i do.

VZ is getting killed on subscriptions b/c people are jumping to AT&T solely for the iPhone. that's just fact. while VZ may want to limit their network, the mobile world of today is so drastically different than just two years ago that they can't. VZ needs a homerun with this phone and they are pulling out all the stops.

as of now, there is still no device that can compete with the iPhone. the Pre is 'meh' at best. it's cool but not nearly as smooth as the iPhone. storm 2 = failure 2. rim just doesn't get consumers.

so, will this be an iPhone killer? no. apple has such a head start that no one is going to catch them for at least five years. at least. but pay attention b/c within the next four months there is going to be a flood of new devices that will at least come close.

the mobile revolution is on folks. grab a wi-fi connection and join the ride.
