What have you done to your bike today?

Rattling MTB Marathon race prep for the Scalpel SS. New Forekaster/Rekon 2.4 combo. 20t cog on the Problem Solvers Zinger, running with a 32t chainring. Waxed chain. Quick waterless wipe down of various locations on the bike. Pic of previously installed King Cage Ti drop bottle cage to fit a 24oz bottle.

The old pre race tear down and reassemble
  • New rear brake hose
  • New Bike Yoke barkeeper stem
  • Going back to the Sidluxe now that I found the creak that's been plaguing me
  • Torqued every bolt on the frame
Fingers crossed for no mechanicals tomorrow

Unrelated mechanical, broke a spoke on the rear wheel 3 miles in but finished without incident. Calling this a win.

I also broke a rear spoke today. Unrelated, but my rear tire is basically totally bald and needs to be replaced. I grabbed the bike today, and the tire was soft and there was Stan's leaking out. I considered putting the new tire on for about 0.5 seconds and then just pumped it up and went for a ride. My laziness has paid off, because now I can get the new tire mounted when the spoke gets replaced.

That's brilliant

while pumping up my front tire on the gravel bike this morning before the ride with some friends I haven’t seen for a while I somehow broke the head off the valve core.

Lucky for me I carry a tube in my pack since I don’t want to mess around with a dart on the gravel tires. Took the valve Core off the tube and was good to go. Held fine for the whole ride and it saved the day.

Now off to order some small packs of valve cores and add that to the saddle bag.

Decided to try this $35 piece of aluminum. The stock plastic preload thread ring came off surprisingly easily. Fortunately I already had green loctite 638 on hand - glued it up and let it dry for a couple hours.

It certainly seems sturdier than the plastic preloader, but honestly I don't think it really improves much. Color is nice though.

I moved my bike from one side of the shed to the other. And hung an extension cord on the handle bar.

We in the middle of some home renovation work, with both myself and a couple of contractors working on small to medium projects over the last couple of weeks. Add in a knee arthritis flareup and the bikes have been pretty lonely as of late.

Projects are nearing an end though and I have a date with Synvisc on Friday.

Mounted up some tires…
2.4 Rekon & Rekon Race on new Elite Carbon Pro 33’s… Rear has a Vitoria air liner light.

Barzo/Mezcal on Silt alloy XC race wheels…

Weights ended up pretty similar between the two wheelsets. The Maxxis tires have some weight over the Vitorias for sure.

Also very impatiently waiting on my damper for the SID so I can finishing building a bike
