So, the Bike Snob wrote an article a while back and touched on an interesting subject.
What is the difference between a "cyclist" and "a guy on a bike" (or more politically correct "a person on a bike").

He submitted that there are two differences.
I think that there might be more to it than that.

What say you?

Serious answer - owns a road bike. You never hear a dude that wears goggles, baggies and shreds the gnar. That's a mountain biker

A cyclist chooses to ride a bike. A guy on a bike lost his drivers license because of a DUI.

Good point. Let's define the term of "cyclist" to include all disciplines: MTB'er, roadie, CXer, downhiller, etc.

i'm pretty sure this guy does not call himself a cyclist doe

This is what I consider to be the meaning of a "Cyclist", you no longer refer to yourself as any particular type of rider. As long as you're on any bike pedaling anywhere it's all good.

Pearl just about every Pro Downhiller spends gobs of hours training on road bikes. That said they won't admit it though 🙂

my god, thank you:

I’ve also learned by being dropped from races and rides of all kinds that I don’t like it when things get difficult, and that no matter what you’re doing you can always quit. And that is a beautiful lesson.

but..

ah hell, i was gonna write something 1speed nailed it.

are they a pro downhiller or cyclist doe

easy Pro Downhiller

when i meet someone new and we are making small talk I tend to squeeze in that I am a cyclist. Why, because I ride all different types of bikes and disciplines. In a perfect world I would prefer to never turn a key to get me from point A to B.
