Not-So-Venerable Asshat
Since everyone is requesting photos - this is Tom.
<---while not my actual photo, it bears a striking resemblance to me, cept I'm much more pasty Western European white than yellow. And I wear glasses.
OK. This thread has been super amusing to me. I get where the women are coming from for sure. I also know as a man with a distant memory of dating at one time, how awkward and inept I always felt. Scared really. That was the point of my previous post - grateful that I somehow found myself married in spite of totally muddling through the "how on earth do I figure this whole people thing out because people confound me especially ones I consider attractive"
So, clearly, there are lots of gray areas in interpersonal interactions. That said, certain things fall outside what is generally considered good taste. I'm sure some people like to be objectified; some individuals may want to be admired for their physical attractiveness above all else. However, without knowing (i.e. - not having had the opportunity to get to know a person well enough to know their deal) its ALWAYS a bad idea to make that assumption. Its also REALLY OFF PUTTING TO PEOPLE WHO DON'T FEEL THAT WAY WHEN YOU PUBLICLY THROW IT OUT REGARDING SOME RANDOM YOU'VE NEVER MET.
Calling an entire sub-section of the community's skills/commitment to the sport into question by likening them to Yeti's adds insult to injury. Broad based generalizations never win, even if you try to play the "this is just my personal experience" card. That's just rationalizing a generalization.
"Well, its just my experience that I never see hot girls on real bikes. Just my experience" might as well be "Well, its just my personal experience, but I've never met a white guy who isn't an asshole"
I get it was supposed to be humorous. We're not paid comedians, obvi (most of you all suck). Therefore, a bit of common sense is surely helpful.
My 5 & 7 are currently outspoken, opinionated, stubborn, and often exasperating little girls. Hoping that, if I'm a good enough parent, they will grow up to be just as fierce as women. And they'd kick somebody in the throat for this kind of thing. And then I'd give them high fives and we'd go ride bikes.
End of rant. Maybe my perspective is way out there, but that's the thinks I've thunk about this whole thing.
