I switched to snowboarding around 8th or 9th grade, and my brother always stuck with skiing. He would give me his ski poles anytime we got someplace with a flat runout.
really not that big of a deal at most places in the east....ALL of my friends snowboarded thru the 90s and early 2000s....I took many of them to Utah on trips...When we got to a long traverse.....suddenly I had no more friends 🙂 oh well, sucks for you guys

Resorts seem to be more aware of this.
Copper regraded a mid mountain access road that they used for a mid mountain Lodge. Had to paddle, but just enough pitch now

Moguls and woods are fine on a board. Deep powder requires extra gravity and carry a snowfoot.

Which tools did you get? Are there kits?
I'm sure i can find videos - how long does it take to get good results?

ty.

Cherry hill is a bit far, but there is no way i'm dropping it at pelican.
I''ve had most of my tools for quite awhile. Maybe the kits have gotten better. Quick Google search shows many options to choose from.

From memory, kit includes a bench top tuning vise kit. Metal and plastic scrapers. Iron. File and file holder for proper bevel. Various sharpening stones and polishers. Scotchbrite pads.

Back in the day when D&Q was bigger, they ran seminars for ski/board tuning in the evening. Small fee and discounts on purchasing tools. I have a .pdf with step by step instructions, but I'm sure there's plenty of instructional videos available. I'd start with a good shop base grind and tune-up.

If you decide to make the trip, new Tonewood location isn't far away, after Dry Jan of course.

I had twin tips for almost 20 years....I donated them to @extremedave tho...I kinda miss them for screwing around sometimes. Maybe dave will let me borrow them from time to time again 🙂

im just not interested in boarding, I have tried it....I mean on a groomer, its entertaining......but on anything that i like to ski....woods, moguls, natural snow....just give me my skis thanks....now that im taking my son as much as i can and trying to learn him...I need to be on the skis.....im NOT taking him on trips to utah and listening to "DAD TOW ME ACROSS THIS TRAVERSE" NOPE.. 🙂
Anytime!
I actually picked up another set of skis but kinda want to try them out before I relinquish custody... 😉

I hear you....I know you can do most things on a snowboard, just like I know that Jeff lenosky can ride a cross bike thru Tiger Blood.....I just like hitting moguls on skis better. On a snowboard, you deal with moguls....on skis....I mean its BUMP SKIING...its like a way of life! 🙂

are they offering lift operators free tickets or epic/ikon passes? If not, wtf is the point of doing that shitty job

Yes. My wife works seasonally for vail. Before vail she was a volunteer for Tripke Peak (Okemo, Sunapee and Crested Butte) for passes and discount on kids program. Since vail bought tout the Muellers it is now a paid position, non restricted epic passes for family and kids seasonal programs are half with various other benefits.

Anyone heading North Thursday or Friday? I've been trying to figure out which direction to head, but the storm projections keep changing.

Also cant seem to nail down anywhere for the most snow, we decided on Okemo Sat-Sun. The drive up on Friday night should be exciting.

I was planning on driving tomorrow and skiing Thursday and Friday. My target location keeps moving. Figure I won't decide till tomorrow.

That snow forecast is TOTALLY different from Wunderground and NOAA, but who knows.

We finally made it to Stratton this past weekend.

Saturday was borderline miserable with the weather & the wind. It was colder when we were in Canada by the thermometer, but this was one of the worst weather days either of us had ever skied in. Conditions sucked, as it was not machine groomed the night before. We did get a great burger for dinner though.

There is more ice at Stratton than anywhere else I have skied on the east coast. Like by far.

Sunday was way better. A bit warmer but also sunnier. Trails were much better condition. Took a while for all the lifts to open, as the wind was pretty strong. But once they were all opened, it was easy going all day. Very short lift lines and by the afternoon many people were gone.

Still, ice sheets everywhere.

A big negative for me on this hill is that the lifts seem to constantly stop for minutes on end. Also, being on the north side, most of the mountain is in shadow by 2:00. Given the amount of ice here, that makes seeing the snow/ice transitions was more difficult.

That said it looks like we are probably going back this Sunday. Hopefully it gets snow and not rain, as 2 days of rain later this week would freeze into icy hell.

That is nuts. and nobody helping clear people? I've seen some crazy crap where the lift guy gets away from the shut-off,
but wow....

The exit off the quad at Blue is not cut in right - the downhill starts after the chair begins to turn.
I was sitting inside seat, and almost got taken out by the chair coming around.
It was constantly stopping for people going down - they were clueless.
