Chimney Rock Conditions

Was intending to ride CR this am but saw it never dipped into the 20s at night. Glad I diverted to High Bridge instead. Thanks for the heads up, Kirt.

With this warmer weather, I was able to get in a session with a large High Tech crew yesterday. We worked on the Bridgewater property on the Vosseller side and then finished the new trail on the ballfield. For those that know the area on black, that huge gully is no more. We also extended the singletrack all the way to the flat section towards Vosseller, prepping for the trails at camp to get started.
The new trail at the ballfield will need some fine tuning come late spring/summer but I decided not to go crazy considering it's only January and some winter riding damage will occur. Overall I'm happy with how it all turned out.

Big shoutout to Paul/High Tech for the crew!

More to come.....

Well done!!
Are trail conditions okay right now?
Wouldn't get your hopes up. Took a quick look this morning at the better parts of upper red and blue (which tend to be dryest and dry first after rain) when it was still in the 20s and the best bits were damp.

The rest was worst w/ mud, standing and running water, etc. Nothing was frozen. Lower red and blue along w/ white are no doubt terrible. Can't speak for the other side of Chimney Rock Road.

I might hit up yellow Sunday but staying away from the rest of the park. We got a lot of rain this week.

I hear High Bridge calling my name though…

Was hiking on the east side this morning scouting a few projects, water, water everywhere. Many trails are currently streams with lots of standing water. Probably about as bad as it gets. Look elsewhere for a least a couple more days.

Already written it off. Considering all the rain, it was a stupid question.

Park closed today for hunting. Don't become a story hoss haha.

If it gets well into freezing overnight as it should plan on hitting it tomorrow morning.
Cold temps helping big time. Most of red/blue/white that I hit (pic below) were firm and dry(ish). Spots here and there baking in the sun were a little soft, and betting as temps rose got softer.

That said, w/ the cold forecast, things should firm up nicely. Of course, there are more spots than I can count that are very deeply rutted w/ tire tracks. Been avoiding those spots after all the rain, first time hitting many of them today in a while. By far the worst section was those blue switch backs (circled in pic below). Wettest and ruttiest.

BIG tree down on upper red interior (X marks the spot in pic below, tho I think it's a bit further in, past those 2 switch backs, too lazy to fix the pic).

Nice and firm today, only soft spots were those basking in the sun. Even then they weren't bad. Rode same spots red/blue/white.

Pretty much as good as it gets this morning. Super solid with relatively little ice. Totally rideable. Was still good when I left at 10.

Big tree on upper red connector still there. Brought my silky but quickly realized the futility of hand cutting this bad boy.

Ruts and more ruts on blue’s switch backs.

Fresh trails on black behind Gilbride looking so smooth and flowy. Will be great when the Boys Club tract opens up and we can transit between both parks via black.

Sketchy AF rail tie bridge still intact. Any riders actually use this or is this for hikers?

Last, bench cut trail back to Gilbride looking pretty as ever.

It looks like log and leaves are redirecting water flow, causing the bridge to become undermined.

Once things thaw a bit, log and leaves should be cleared to allow water to flow under center of bridge where there's more clearance for water Clarence.

Happy trails.
