I HAD to smile to hide the pain! I am amazed at how may people showed - newbies to racing, teamies, and people from mtbnj! It was so awesome to show up to a race and have such a network of great people!

Congrats to everyone! So many of you podiumed and did fabulous! And so many of you showed for your first race and impressed the crap out of me. Great job!

Now, can I start complainging? For me, this was the worst race I have ever done. It started with a cracked frame and poison ivy (and therefore lack of sleep because of scratching all night). I went back and forth all the way from the time I woke up, to the finish of the 2nd lap... go back home? Just go and take pics? Just ride a lap, but don't race? Race, but stop after first lap if I feel like crap? Flip a freaking coin. 🙂

I spent the whole first lap going back and forth between DNFing and sucking it up. As I came through the start/finish, I planned to stop, but everyone was cheering, so I couldn't just stop. I kept going and I had fun saying hi to everyone, socializing on the course, and making jokes. On the way home I had a barf bag next to me and kept my eyes open for places to pull over.

All in all though, it's a day to remember...the worst days are the best memories. 🙂

Thanks to everyone who put this together and who cheered (yelled at for cheering??).

From a first timer...

What an Experience!!!
From a guy who overcame some serious and nearly ruinous personal demons just three years ago to, at age 47 racing in a sport that I only ever dreamed of getting involved in.
So many wonderful new friends and people, too many to mention personally here. But when my sister, who surprised me by showing up to root me on after a five hour drive from MA asked me what the best part of the day was, that's what I told her; the people and of course her visit.
Special, extra appreciation goes to my fiance' , too.
If I sound emotional it's because I am. It may have been just a race, but for me it was one of the best days of my life.
Everyone who participated was a winner in a big way. And, for me coming in where I did was (about 10th ot of 26) was icing on the cake.
 
This doesn't look like someone that "has" to smile 😛

I'm thinking about it, but my camera is now toast, and it's $1200 for a used one. How about on a donation basis? I lose money on this as is!
If everyone donates a few bucks IF their pictures came out great it would help. I have NEVER made money on my pictures and every single dollar I take in goes into replacing/upgrading my equipment, and it's no where near enough 🙁
But i do love you guys!

Along with my camera failure, I also had TWO of my photo hard drives fail in ONE week. Thank god I had 1 more backup and I didn't lose anything. Horay for paranoia! I finally made room by this morning for the 8 Gigs of pics from yesterday. Took a lot of swapping around files and now they are on my work laptop. Uploading Beginner right now, but this connection isn't so fast and 8GB is a LOT. I'm still very uncomfortable with my lack of backup drive.
 
Luke, where were you in the Beginner race? I told someone not to take my pic as I lost momentum in the rock gardens in the first leg of the course 😱 :rofl:
 
That may be the best picture anyone has ever taken of me. I'll give you $2 for that!

But seriously, whatever works for you. I know this stuff isn't cheap.
 
just a note if anyone wants the original files unedited of the crap pictures I took let me know I will send them to you when I get home and pull them off the camera.
