Garmin 800, every park in NJ map overlay. You need this!

I can't go back from W7, it's so fantastic. I have like 4 programs on my quick launch bar and anything else I just hit the windows key start typing the program name and just launch it.
WK - lightroom - enter
boom, no looking for shit
the search function is just phenomenal too.
Someone emails me about a picture or something,
Hi I bought picture DSC-0032 and something something
I type 0032 into search and before I can grab the mouse the picture is listed in it's location and I can open it with any program. No looking around for anything any more.
It's sooooo useful at work where I deal with massive amounts of small files.

yes i did what was said above i tried many different ways except for updating the latest firmware. Ill try that and report back later. thanks
I also think W7 is the Bees Knees... Love it love it love it.

i cant get this to work on my garmin. can someone please help me?
when i plug my garmin in; my pc recognizes it as GARMIN(J) and removable disk(K) so i open garmin create a folder in there named custom maps and in that folder i place the file i downloaded from the OP. turn on the garmin follow the steps to switch maps and all i get are 2 maps named CN North America and AMR Standard basemap,NR. what gives?

Had the same issue and it appears that I disconnected before the full 9MB was downloaded. I saved to desktop first and drag/dropped to the cusommaps folder. Needed to wait about 2min for it to get fully copied, disconnect and voila. (I was receiving errors about disconnecting a few times, then noticed the file size discrepancy)

Thanks for setting this up; very much looking forward to using it on an All of Blue ride.

Still cant get this to work. SO FRUSTRATED!!!
Updated software on my device loaded map file to custom maps folder on the garmin device memory. Still nothing FML.... Any other suggestions?

Hmm, I afraid that I can't help much because I don't have an 800 but a lot of guys one here do. Maybe someone can compare their directory?

Did your device already have the CustomMaps folder or did you create it?
(my Dakota already had it)
Maybe the name of the custom maps folder is case sensitive and the device doesn't see it? Is yours correct?

I created the folder and named it Custom Maps. I guess I'll try renaming it with no spaces. Thanks

I finally had a chance to use this map last Sat. I rode 6 mile and even though I don't need a map there it was so awesome seeing the intersections on the screen color coded and all. It tracked up perfectly!
Again, AWESOME job Luke!
I can wait to explore a park that I don't know with this. It will be so much easier to plan a route or follow a planned route anyway!

I wish I could help you out with building these maps but I have no idea how.
Unless you also have a _______ for dummies?

I haven't had a chance to really try the maps - but today...WHOA! it really came in handy at Allaire today- I usually have to pull out a map to check to see where I am...

awesome job - thanks!!!

So my cool-ass wife got me an 800 for Fathers Day. I was going step by step here and...nothing works. My version of XP is too old, so basically all the Garmin map loading stuff doesn't apply. I gave the hell up, made a simple "custommaps" folder and dropped GTlukes file there. It does show as an enabled map on the device but I have no idea if it's going to work. How do I view it, of do you have to be within the park area for it to work?

Basically, I have no idea what I'm doing. Blech. Anyone?

Go outside, turn on the gps. Zoom out and scroll to the nw until you see Mahlon. Zoom in and see if you can see the Mahlon map.

Also under maps on the gps make sure that the "custom map" is enabled.

Are you kidding me?! That's insane! I had to zoom pretty close but they popped right up. So those maps are gps correct so when I'm on trail it'll follow? Gtluke...holy cow.
Funny, I subscribed to that thread thinking one day I might get the 800 and try them out. Nice. Thanks.
