IGVENTURE

It would be cool if stans gave me another rim. I attached this pic in an email to them to give it a try. I didn't ask for a replacement but a discount on another rim. I'm not sure if I'll even here back from them. Maybe I should go with the heavy stans rim, the flow? At this point in my game I should have a set of flow's for everyday rock riding and a lighter wheelset for racing(crest or carbon wheels)...or just stick with the Arch's and replace them every 4 years.

Todays plan was to go to Wayway and ride some of the Bearscat loop with Kirt. It seems like everytime we plan to go there it rains, the last time I was at wayway was last years bs50. I am sick of trashing my bike in mud and riding in miserable conditions. We are shooting for plan B, heading up tomorrow and riding in 90 degree heat. Actually we should be done before the heat arrives.

Iggy, if I can ride Crests you should be on them too. The crest's/arch's are lightweight racing wheels, they will need to be replaced every couple of years.

I have rims but i would prolly only give up the flows because only have 1 set of arches that i want to use for a gravel grinder someday.

You should get crests iggy. You are certainly light enough. Spoke could have simply been too tight, over time the spoke hole is probably weakest of the 3 pieces in tension.

you have another wheel to use for this weekend? Come over if you cant find anything, im sure I have something in my garage that will work.

I took my stans arch off of my ss, so i do have that as a back up. But thanks for the offers folks😀

Looking at the wear around the spoke nipples/rim I can only imagine the damage I am doing to my spine.

Knowing the way you ride (destroy parts), I'd go with the Arch's. Only 70 grams heavier than the Crest.

New for 2012 we've taken one of our best selling rims and made it even better. The new Arch EX is lighter, wider and tougher than the original Arch rim!

Yeah, i wouldn't go crest's, nor would i ever do carbon mtb. But still I wouldn't say I destroy parts, i've raced the same hardtale for 4 years.(most of use get a new mtb every other year) In that time the hub was rebuilt once and I upgraded to 10spd sram. The derailleur hanger is very delicate on that bike(ive broken many), but the short cage helps this.

Most of the stuff I break is usually the result of me with a wrench, putting back parts incorrectly. I must say that my garmin holder works awesomely doe.

How much do you weigh? I was super hesitant to get Crests. Im 170 and my riding style is brute force, not finesse. I made sure I had some nice non-racing wheels setup to keep my crests fresh. I used them once, they sat for a year, then got sold. You're doing yourself a disservice if you opt for a heavier rim.

I weigh 145, so thats not an issue. For me is the added expense of a dedicated set of race wheel(s). You should have kept your Crest's and let me borrow them 1x/month when I race😀 I'll end up sticking with the working mans Stan's, otherwise known as the Arch.

3:45am

Waking up at this time to get into work at 5am is an kick in the nuts. No matter when you go to bed its just not normal to wake up this early. Doing it once is not so bad, kinda like doing the first interval in a 5X5. The first one is a breeze but by the fifth your worn out and ready to quite.

I took off work yesterday, it felt so good to sleep until 7. The plan was to meet Kirt at his house and ride up to wayway to do some of the BS course.

Well we got up there ok but I never left the parking lot. My derailleur broke. It did the same thing it was doing at the Wildcat 100, not keeping tension on the chain. The spring inside coiled around again. Kirt went out and rode for a bit while I took this thing apart. At first I was like a retart looking at a ferris wheel. I know this is a politically incorrect statement but I grew up in the 70's. After awhile I remebered how to take it apart after watching Vreeland repair it 2wks ago. I still had to use the phone a friend for help, Jim basically told me the thing is F'd. I was able to drop it off at HG on the way home and Jim was going to take off his sram derailleur and put it on my bike. Which is awesome, since the BS 50 is Sunday and there aint enough time for dat.

4X3

I was kinda annoyed that my bike broke again but it was still a productive day. I got a haircut and took J to soccer practice later. While he was at practice I shot over to the great swamp and got some interval work in on the road bike.. 4x3's are a good way to fire up the furnace and blow out the pipes without wiping yourself out before a race. My numbers were good, exactly the same as pre-Battenkill.

And

no one names there kid Charles anymore.

I have the crests and sold the other wheels. At your weight the crests are a working man's wheel that are race ready.

Exactly, we can't use the term Ferris Wheel anymore. The 70's were awesome.

There was a kid named Charles in the town I grew up in. He was a special kid, and by "special" I mean dumb as bricks. One time we were hanging out somewhere-or-other and he was riding his bike down the street. For no good reason I had this pole in my hand, like maybe a broomstick with no broom. Don't ask why. Iggy gets it. As kids, this is just the kind of shit you had in your hand randomly. Kids are idiots, don't try to figure them out.

Anyway, he rides down the street and I throw the stick at his front wheel. And like sinking a half court shot to win $100 at a halftime competition, it hits the ground, bounces up, right into his spokes, and slams against the fork locking up the bike. Charles goes ass over teakettle in the middle of the street.

Ah, memories.

that sucks, thats a long trip to have the bike not work in the parking lot. Glad jim has it now though.

why nobody names kid charles anymore...

"he signed the letters CARLOS!!! which we all know is spanish for CHARLES!!!"

"whats your name?" "CHUCKY!"

"we've come for your daughter Chuck"

Although charlie bucket was ok in my book 🙂

Ah not true
My grandson Charles Wamhoff Borgerding IV

So stick it! And thank god too because in this day and age of hippie lets not offend or bully our kids shit he has a strong manly name.

Arch EX is impossible to beat if you only have one set of wheels, IMO. They are really the leading edge of Stan's rim design at the moment.

They're certainly not weighing down my 18.6 lb. single speed, either.
