So last week was another road trip to Pitt, J had to register for classes in September meet with his academic advisor and take part in a sleep over in the dorms, they call this whole thing Pitt-start. We made it there in 5 hrs, which is pretty good since I hit some traffic leaving NJ at 4pm on a Wednesday. The aggravating part of that drive is trucks in the left lane passing a truck in the right lane, the whole process is painful. Its like being behind senior citizens in a supermarket aisle, there is just no way around them and when you say excuse me they look at you like a douche.
Every time I see this campus I am impressed, it really is beautiful. The kids all look kinda like Jamie, khaki shorts, t shirt, little acne and holding an Iphone. The dude walking in this picture must me a teacher, he doesn't fit the student mold. Times have change since I went to college, it seems the Animal House image was kinda what I remember. Today its a little more sophisticated, you get to study abroad your junior year and party in Italy instead of some crappy off campus apartment you share with 10 other guys. They encourage the kids to get involved and take part in the school, which is a good thing.
While Jamie was doing college stuff Mary and I toured around the campus. There was a conservatory with this
corpse flower, it only flowers 1x/3yrs and gives off a stench of death when it blooms. It was really hyped so we had to see it. The stinking flower was done blooming and I'm not sure what death smells like but I don't think it smelled that bad.
I had more fun walking around the city along the 3 rivers. While its a city its easy to get around, its not as big as NY. From what I understand there are mountain bike trails around but I did not bring my bike for this visit but I should for next time. It was nice to take a break from the bike for a few days doe. There is a huge bike museum that we checked out. Its a 2 story building packed with old bikes, parts and memorabilia. It was somewhat overwhelming. The amount of Schwinn Stingrays was too great to count, to me once you've seen a couple do you really need to see 130 of them?
So for next time I want to rent a kayak and paddle in the 3 rivers and bring my mtb and checkout the trails.
This lady said sorry after she rode by, she doesn't realize she made the pic better.
