^Du rag.

I'm sitting here at the tire center getting tires for Mary's car. Every time Jamie takes the car out he gets a flat.

What I really like about LBI is the fact that I'm on an island. Being surrounded by water is a good change of pace, the cycling sucks but the aquatic life is great. Every year I come here I go home wanting a kayak, sunfish sail boat, SUP...
But then I need a house on the Bay to keep all this shit. When your down here it's easy to adopt the Island mentality, which is a feeling of being in your own water filled world with a relaxed pace. Of course not having to work adds to the enjoyment. I like what I do but at the end of the day it ain't vacation.

Mary and I have been going to yoga every morning, I'm usually the only guy there so I set up my mat in front of the class and own it. This is a great way to start the day, again not having to work for a week does not suck.

As much as I love Barnegat Light I'll be going home in a few days and all these great activities will get shelved until next year. I'd like to play in the water more but once I leave the island it's kinda out of sight out of mind and I go back to more cycling. I will continue to do yoga once a week and I'll probably search Craig's list for a week or two, entertaining the idea of getting a kayak/sunfish but as usual the priorities shift and I forget about Island lyff until next year.

Good post Iggy, very grounded in reality. I laugh when people go on vacation and say shit like, "Oh but X-Y-Z is so much better, the people are nicer there." Well the reality is that a) you're on vacation and b) everyone you meet is either catering to your vacation or not working at all. So sure they're going to be nicer.

I mean I'm sure Detroit is not so bad if you go there on vacation. Well ok, maybe bad example.

I'm sitting here at the breakfast table enjoying my cup of coffee as I look out over the balcony at the ocean and hear the waves washing along the shore line. The sound of the ocean is constant and can be easily ignored as such, however knowing I am leaving soon it sounds really remarkable.

I love this thing. #so70s #islandlyff

@Norm , people here are definitely more relaxed because they are on vacation but even the local contractor driving his van down the Boulevard slows down to let beach goers cross the street, at home crossing main streets is like a game of frogger. I noticed this courteous driving thing in Chicago as well, years ago Mary and I went to visit a friend and I was shocked to see people slowing down at yellow lights . In NJ yellow means proceed with speed.

The walk back to the house. These beaches are unspoiled and beautiful.

With 2 kids in college I'll be working for quite a while yet but being able to get away from work makes this thought much more bearable. There is xc skiing in winter up north, the occasional college related trip to Pitt for Jamie, the annual mtb week at Kingdom VT, and the summer retreat in Barnegat Light. Besides this, there is always the enjoyable rides with Kirt, Utah, Mitch, Brian...on wknds and hooking up with Woody during the week. Also Mary and I try to get out for daytrips and such, even if its to do yoga or grab a drink at the Cranford Hotel. When I look at my schedule I must say that I allow for enough play time. I remember a guy I worked with used the term ROAD to describe his job status. Retired on active duty🙂

Heading to happy hour at Kubels with Mary and Evan.

I got back from LBI on Saturday afternoon. After unpacking I did not sweat enough so peddled the SS to some local trails . My Santa Cruz is unusable at this point, the brakes need to be bled.

The heat didn't bother me and it felt good to ride trails after tooling around on the flats of LBI.
Sunday morning I worked early then met Mitch at Allaire. He gave me a tour of the WMA, which was a nice diversion from the usual trails. We spotted a lot of turtles in the WMA. Perhaps it was turtle mating season? I was wondering how turtles find each to mate? It's not like they can hop in their Mustang and cruise over to the local pick up bar. Do the women turtles put out a scent and walk provocatively? Maybe @capedoc knows.

Seeing two Box Turtles do it is just as graceful as two Volkswagen Beetles doing it.
Mitch has a pic of this, I'm not sure what he posted I could not open it. The male turtle fell on his back during copulation and rendered him immobile. Despite eons of evolution the male turtle becomes useless after sex...and he's ok with that.
