IGVENTURE

Yeah, I was wondering what @David Taylor does, he has the same bike. I guess you make sure it's adjusted before the ride, unless you want to carry a large wrench.
i only adjust mine when I switch gears. I don't carry those tools on the trail. I have a stubby wrench i use to snug but prefer to snug the nuts with the stubby and tighten the brake bolt before removing axle and snugging some morw with a box wrench. I then put axle in and tighten before snugging on the adjuster bolts for security. I did put a better quality bolt in the brake keeper. It's a great design @pooriggy

Congrats on Pitt!

Hey, at least it happened now and not when it counted... So it's a WIN!
Yeah, the first ride on a new bikes is always full of surprises...years ago a friend called it the new bike blues.

Finally catching up on threads. Slow day at the work detail.

yeah, @pooriggy , you and I are about the same age, yet somehow I feel older (younger?)
As your kid begins college, my twins will be starting Kindergarten.

God help us all, and thanks for blogging!

Wow, more power to you. It seems like a lot of people are having kids later in life these days. I'm just glad I got it over with when I was younger🙂

Yeah, I don't think my chain was tight enough from the start and it kept dropping. Just in case I have a huge wrench from my tool box that I crammed in my camelbak for tomorrows ride.

Noteables as I see you with enough flats...stock rims with the bontrager tubeless strips and bontrager tlr liquid are bomb proof as far as flats go. Rim tape sucks...period. That bike is fantastic and light. If u ever want to keep it rigid then carbon bars, post, thicker grips and some 2.4s with exo will give it that caddy feel. Stock bars are way too narrow. I did a truvativ carbon post, renthal carbon light bars, race face next carbon crank, sid xx wc fork and rhythm pro carbon wheels...xtr pedals and my xl bike with cages, pedals and garmin mount is around 21.5 lbs

Ok, after making some adjustments to the SS I went over to RV with @Ryan.P yesterday. Tighting the chain and torquing down the bolts before the ride worked out perfectly, the chain did not move a cm. Also when Vreeland replaced my spoke for me we found Gorilla tape/duct tape instead of Stans tape in the rim. That shit was garbage, Stans fluid seeped into the rim where it doesn't belong. Not sure how I ended up with Gorilla tape on my rim, I never use that. It was probably put on by another shop when they put my parts onto the new SS frame. But why did they need to mess with rim tape??...it's a mystery .

Anyway the second ride was a charm. RV has 2 things going for it. 1, you can ride the place in a rain storm. It wasn't raining there yesterday however with all the rain we had during the week the trails where firm and hard, no mud
...ever.
2, it's good training grounds for xc racing. With all the climbing at this place there is no leisurely pedalling, especially on a SS.

It would be nice if reroutes/new trails were possible at this place. The out and back that exists is utilitarian, which is good for hikers backpacking it to the campgrounds however it's not very friendly to mtbers. Ideally a loop with switchbacks, lots of switchbacks would soften the lung pounding climbs and add some interest to the trails for riding. This is a wish list/pipe dream. The hardest part would not be building it but rather convincing the state to go for it. At this point just pruning back stickers and removing trees on the trails would be a big improvement. @Norm has already begun doing this stuff and the place is noticeably better then 3 wks ago when I was there.

Link mountain rd and Stanton-Lebanon for some road miles and you have a nice loop around the reservoir with elevation.

The Cushetunk Hike a Bike. Woody climbed it on a fatbike and Maurice on 29er?(fastest man on mtbnj evah).

There have been 2 other claims of this. One I believe, 1 I have a hard time believing. We hiked it yesterday. Jesus would have a hard time climbing that.

Maurice was on a 26er most of his career and I believe climbed it routinely. He was on another planet.

Had a really good ride today at TOS. I couldn't get anyone to ride with me today so I stopped off and said Hi to my friend. The trails at Ringwood/Ramapo are so incredible, mile for mile its some of the best riding in the state. I was able to get to the new stuff on White, that trail flows so well even uphill. The quantity of stone work on that trail is incredible, as I was riding it I could not help but smile. The new trail connects to the old white trail and then I added yellow in to complete the loop. Coming back on yellow is a kick in the nutz, its really hard to keep flow on that trail but I did manage to keep from going over the bars today.

This file is the new TOS loop, it skips the Skylands trail but riding new white is worth it.

Me no see on Garmin??

Me no see on Garmin??
I just tried the link and it worked. I think Garmin may have been down, when I first posted it I could not get the link.
Also I put Maprika on my phone but that is just another device that confuses me. I just need to learn to navigate the trails, I can never follow a course with devices. Riding solo forces me to pay attention and learn the trails.

Works now.. I think Yellow is one of the tougher trails around. Super tech with not much flow. Just hard work, especially on the SS it kicks my Ass.

I spoke with Bob Dylan yesterday and he wants to know why your are still riding a rigid SS. He said hey, look your getting older, don't hurt yourself man...get a fucking geared bike with FS.
