Ok, after making some adjustments to the SS I went over to RV with
@Ryan.P yesterday. Tighting the chain and torquing down the bolts before the ride worked out perfectly, the chain did not move a cm. Also when Vreeland replaced my spoke for me we found Gorilla tape/duct tape instead of Stans tape in the rim. That shit was garbage, Stans fluid seeped into the rim where it doesn't belong. Not sure how I ended up with Gorilla tape on my rim, I never use that. It was probably put on by another shop when they put my parts onto the new SS frame. But why did they need to mess with rim tape??...it's a mystery .
Anyway the second ride was a charm. RV has 2 things going for it. 1, you can ride the place in a rain storm. It wasn't raining there yesterday however with all the rain we had during the week the trails where firm and hard, no mud
...ever.
2, it's good training grounds for xc racing. With all the climbing at this place there is no leisurely pedalling, especially on a SS.
It would be nice if reroutes/new trails were possible at this place. The out and back that exists is utilitarian, which is good for hikers backpacking it to the campgrounds however it's not very friendly to mtbers. Ideally a loop with switchbacks, lots of switchbacks would soften the lung pounding climbs and add some interest to the trails for riding. This is a wish list/pipe dream. The hardest part would not be building it but rather convincing the state to go for it. At this point just pruning back stickers and removing trees on the trails would be a big improvement.
@Norm has already begun doing this stuff and the place is noticeably better then 3 wks ago when I was there.
