IGVENTURE

SSing sucks. After riding my Tallboy it's tough to go back to no gears, not to mention hardtale. I forgot how much work ss is, Hartshorne yesterday took a lot of effort. I took the new Superfly out on a maiden voyage. It was a total disaster. I kept dropping my chain because my slider was not back far enough and I didn't have a 16mm wrench to adjust it. Then I flatted , my spoke popped and went through rim tape. Stans all over but no seal. I ended up putting a tube in it. Utah would have been proud I only used 2 CO2s. Fortunately I was solo, anyone riding with me would have wanted to shoot me.

This year I aged up to the 50+ class. There is no shortage of competition in this class. A few years ago this class would have 5 guys in it, now about 15 dudes show up and 3 of them keep beating me. Whatever, I like racing.

For now I have to get my SS ready for SSAP. I'll stop at Hilltop to see @Vreeland to get my spoke fixed today.

Oh, and Jamie is going to University of Pittsburgh in September, actually August. So there will be the occasional road trip to pick him up/drop off. I need to swing in a stop at State College to ride the trails there but I'm not sure if that will work out.

Glad I worked instead of joining you yesterday. :*), What do you bring on your rides to fix your bike??? Your Buddies!!
Good luck with PITT..

im willing to bet that tank is almost as heavy as your tallboy...after ssap, sell it...next year FS SS! Give the sale money to your son so he can buy 1 book that will get thrown away after 3 months.

It is kinda klunky but it's always good to have a backup bike. Also it makes me really appreciate the SC.

Congrats on Pitt!

Hey, at least it happened now and not when it counted... So it's a WIN!

Yeah, definitely great to work out the kinks before ssap.

I would imagine that a 16mm wrench for the slider is unfortunately too heavy to carry for the race.

Yeah, I was wondering what @David Taylor does, he has the same bike. I guess you make sure it's adjusted before the ride, unless you want to carry a large wrench.

You can buy a 16mm stubby. I carry the 15mm when I ride my fixed gear road bike, which has track nuts. They fit very nicely in a jersey pocket or tool kit.

Or a short adjustable would work, though not as securely or quickly.

Making sure it's adjusted before the ride is a good idea, regardless of the wrench you carry.
Iggy is used to dealing with stubby things, so he will feel right at home with those wrenches.

Finally catching up on threads. Slow day at the work detail.

yeah, @pooriggy , you and I are about the same age, yet somehow I feel older (younger?)
As your kid begins college, my twins will be starting Kindergarten.

God help us all, and thanks for blogging!

two things...

I love the fact that 50+ class is still growing and fast as hell.

That pic does not do that view any justice. I tried to snap a decent pic there once and came out with the same result. I guess you have to be there to appreciate it.

correction - make that three... I forgot to transplant my hostas last fall... Damn it..
