Story time. today was interesting.
Worked from home instead of going to the office because I found a screw in my right rear car tire last night but it wasn’t loosing air so I planned to bring it to tire shop this morning after morning work calls.
This meant I could sleep in a little (thank god!) and ride at lunch with one of my WFH buds who’s been on vacation for 10 days.
So we meet up at 11ish and just BSing and catching up. I tell him about some jackass that buzzed me last week and right on cue we got coal rolled by some douche in an older lifted dark grey RAM pickup. That was right after we got beeped and yelled at by a bunch of shithead teenagers speeding in daddy’s MB sedan.
We were heading back on our usual road and I glance down and see what looks like a small duffel bag. I turn around and it clearly looks like someone’s pocketbook got swiped and dumped on the side of the road. We looked through it briefly to see maybe someone left it on the car roof and drove off from the local warehouse but it had only personal items and keys but no phone or wallet. And a RX bottle for a dog and a small Amazon package with a name and address.
Slung it over my shoulder and rode the 1 mile to my house instead of extending the ride since I already had my hour. Had a quick shower and lunch then drove it to the local PD left my name and # as required. The dispatcher was indifferent about it but seemed more genuine when I left said thanks for bringing this in.
An hour later I got a call from local PD that they found the owner and she wants to talk to me to thank me but they are not allowed to give my number. He said you can call her if you want or decline. But he said her message to me was “please call me back so I can thank you “. Gave her a call she had just left PD and was very very glad to have her bag and stuff back. She admitted she was dumb when she ran into Wawa with her phone and wallet but left her bag in the front seat and the car unlocked. Turns out she wasn’t even missing anything from the bag she said everything was intact including her keys iPhone charger and meds for herself and her dog. She thanked me about 100 more times and I wished her good luck and reminded her to always lock her car 🙂
So if I don’t get the screw in my tire and work from home today and go for a midday ride along that road she probably doesn’t get her bag back. Strange coincidences and timing that I guess was meant to be. Oh and tire repair was covered under my road hazard warranty so no charge. Yippee.
My riding buddy didn’t miss the chance to snag sneaky pic of us riding back with me looking like a bike messenger jester. Never mind the kit it’s bike laundry day and IDGAF 🤪🤣
