Here are a few from Mt Mansfield.

Drove up Thurs, rode a bunch Fri and cannonballed back yesterday as I had a couple of outdoor hockey games last night. Cannot move my legs today.

Open stuff got tracked quickly but the woods had some nice spots. Going back up later this week with my son and his friends.

Last one is of my BIL - I poached a room from them Thurs/Fri nights.
Awesome

I assume you pass that drive-up coffee shack just over the border in NY. For reasons that are baffling to me, it is currently closed. Given the massive congo line of traffic heading from VT back to NY/NJ, I would think they would make a mint if they were open on Sunday afternoon/evening.
They permanently stopped selling coffee/donuts. Now selling protein bowls ("Blazin Bowls") Fri-Sun 11-7. Called "The Shack at Jacks" opened yesterday (2/5). Bummed about it because they always had good donuts and a good place for a hot coffee or tea for the drive from Troy back to NJ as a halfway point from Stowe.

My son and I were there at the butt-crack and laid 1st tracks down the Bruce. That one is ski only (I'm sure you know) because you need to push through a mile (feels like more) of the cross country center, which was ungroomed for half of it. Wife picked us up a the Horn and from there it took almost 40min. to get back because the traffic was insane. Holy shit man, its getting out of control. The COVID people need to move back home already.

Epic crowds will come even when Covid is done with. Obviously powder days will always be a shit show, especially during a low snow year.

If you have the equipment Hickory is a small hill on the way to gore that is closed, but has opened to uphill. They ask you contribute $10 per person per day and sign in and out...Worth it...Sat AM I spent 4 hours on the hill, 3 laps and got to chase my own tracks.

Nice!! I've done the Bruce with some decent snow on it and it is a bundle of fun but agree the second part of it is torture on a board. We usually do it last run down (around 2:30) and the legs are pretty toasty at that point so the XC section is extra painful.

My sis in law and I were saying how insane it has gotten there these past couple of years. I can see a Friday getting packed on a powder day but it's on another level now. And I noticed the level of skiers/riders are not as good as it used to be. Felt like it would always be solid people in the woods in years past - now it's mostly Epic App kooks. I saw a girl ride Hayride - split tail "pow board" and the coolest gear but she literally side stepped the whole way done (I was a bunch of runs in and taking my time looking for good snow so was going slow but at least turning).

What was really weird was the quad wasn't too packed save for the first chair crowd and certain trails weren't bad either but others were filled.

I actually think the Epic pass is too cheap. I complained about the costs pre-Epic but would gladly take those lower skier numbers!

On the ski forums it's argued to death, but for Vail the Epic pass is just a numbers game. It destroys the skier's experience, but it sells lots of passes. Stockholders only care about the sales numbers.

Was the snow the same at Killington and stratton?

LOL no, not at all.

Stratton got 3" and then an ice covering on Friday.
Killington got 14" and no ice.

You could see it on the trees driving up route 7. All the trees were covered in ice. It was beautiful, but obviously not what you want for a ski day. About halfway to Rutland the ice stopped and there was much more snow cover.

Conditions Sunday were probably the best I have ever skied. Mind you I do not have much experience in this area. But the snow was great.

Nice. Glad you got out there. I bet those few days were the best of the year. I was stuck in NJ for wrestlin, oh well.

We are heading back up Friday for a 3 day weekend. Looking like 2 Killington then a Stratton day on the drive home. Hopefully conditions are still good.

As long as it stays cold, you should be golden. Looks like you’ll have better conditions than me. I’m headed to deer valley for a week on Saturday. They haven’t had snow in a month.

100%

My Epic pass (non holiday version) costs significantly less than a season pass to Camelback or Blue. I'm not complaining but it makes weekend skiing a non-starter. Luckily for me I have a career with very flexible off-time in the winter months so I can take advantage of mid-week skiing but otherwise it's a joke.

I agree, its been amateur hour mainly in that people are getting in way over their heads. The meat wagon is at the base a couple of times a day, and the number of people I see struggling their way through the woods outnumbers the amount that should be there. One day my son and I "human slalomed" our way through the Nose Dive glades, it was ridiculous. It also infuriates me to see people side-slipping down the sides of the blacks and double blacks where the good snow is. Its the equivalent of skidding down the trail on a bike.

Its not just the cost of the Epic Pass, the population of the town has ballooned since COVID. The number of people that have moved in, primarily from Mass, has tripled the class sizes in the elementary schools. Now on powder days, everyone invites the fam and friends from wherever they moved from to be there the night before. Real estate prices are also similarly ridiculous, its a sellers market for sure. Cady Hill on summer weekends has been cray, I'm so glad they expanded the riding in other parts of town where the climbs preclude a lot of people. That's also why I hope they stay anti-ebike, but I know for a fact that's not going to last. My hope is that some day this bubble bursts. Some of these transplants maybe get tired of the shitty internet and harsh winters, get over the novelty of "country life" and move back to where they came from.
