23-24 Ski and Snowboard thread

Great day at Killington. Mid week is the way to go. No lines or crowds, I rode the Skyship up by myself. Bluebird day and perfect temps.

Oh so here is a funny story for you guys....I always forget about this until I go back to park city....drive thru town...drive by my old house.....So I think I once mentioned my neighbor when I lived there...had 3 porsches....911 slantnose, 86 930 turbo and a 944 turbo....let me take his 930 out for the day if i detailed it for him...That was a really awesome day.....Anyway...my OTHER neighbor.....I rarely ever saw them. They had this really weird house...like split down the middle his and hers sort of this...garages on either side....8ft high solid wooden fence all the way around....it was like a compound really

anyway, I knew they had a young son, would see him every once in a while....but I was ~13 and he was ~5...so I never paid much attention to them...They never made any attempt to say hi to us in the 7 years I lived next to them....I mean we were NJ riff raff after all....Then my step mother and her 12 kids came along and our driveway looked like a walmart parking lot.

So I leave Utah, years go by....on one of my trips back my step brother mentioned our neighbor and who the little kid who lived next door was

Apparently I lived next door to Ted Ligety for 7 years and never knew it lol

I was at sugarbush yesterday too! Bummed we didn’t run into one another. Where did you ski most of the day?

We stayed on the Lincoln side. Hit every lift at least once. Tended to be in the non groomed stuff most of the day.

My daughter is off next week.. so as much as I usually avoid presidents week at all cost, i'm going to take here to VT for tues / wed.

Considering we have ICON passes, where should we go??

For her needs, less people, mellow terrain and good grooming is what we are after.

I was kinda thinking about checking out loon after riding there in the summer, but couple extra hours of driving of course. Anyone ever skied there?

Killington has a lot of terrain to spread out on. Ramshead has some mellow trails and progression parks with small features. Also you to do the Peak to Creek run down Great Eastern which is nice a chill.

Sugarbush doesn’t have much as far as groomers/chiller terrain.

Icon has 4 hills in Vermont. I consider Pico separate from Killington. The further north you go, the fewer people. I would agree that Sugarbush does not have as much tame terrain.

You might consider Pico. Not quite as far. Definitely not as crowded. And I think it's nothing but blue & green trails.

Never been to Loon but my understanding is that it can get pretty busy.

Loon is filled with friggin massholes from bahston, kid. Only 2 hourahs up 93. Don’t go there on the weekend.

It also is just the least interesting of all the east coast ikon mountains. Short runs and not much challenging stuff. Snowpack tends to be lower than all the other mountains too, even lower than Stratton quite often. It is still skiing, though.

I was going to suggest Pico too as it’s never crowded and is more of a family mountain, no attitudes. And much lower rates than the bigger mountains but a fair amount of terrain. But…
1) check the schedule. They are usually closed Tues and Weds but may be open this week being a holiday week
2) there are no greens from the upper mountain. Only blues (steep ones at that) and blacks. The lower mountain has very nice blues and greens

Pico friggin rocks. Keep it on the hush hush, though, because it’d be a shame if people started going there on the weekends.

The trail Summit Glades is actually one of my favorite in the east on a snowboard. Consistent, not-too-steep but not boring pitch, and it really feels like you’re deep in the middle of the woods. It’s not true gladed terrain like the name suggests.

There are some really incredible legitimate glade trails at pico too.
