After a ten year hiatus after a high school sporting injury, in which time i picked up the wonderfully horrible habit of smoking, Ive finally got my shit together and have been making some positive changes. i quit smoking bought a bike and threw myself head long back into trail riding. i'm 3 months off the cancer sticks, still feel like 😛uke: after a big climb but have to say its a welcome feeling after being so sedentary for so long. there's plenty i need to relearn about the sport and would really love some critiquing and advice.

Im going to race cat3 in the up coming Lewis-Morris event with the goal of finishing in or around the field. Since this is my first race any words of wisdom in terms of pre-race routines, nutrition and etiquette would be greatly appreciated.

thanks much and hope to see u on the trails

Ohhh, going to step up and challenge the KOC3, are you now?

Should be fun.

Welcome.

welcome aboard chief, i just quit smoking last friday and feel your pain, everytime i see someone with a smoke i want to take a bat to their head and jack their pack! but gotta keep it civilized. Good luck on the race, i might be there spectating as there is no way i could race this bad boy without droping dead of a heart attack.

Congratulations on quitting smoking! Probably the best thing you can do for your self.

I used to be a pack-a-day smoker until I got back into MTbiking 5 years ago.
After not being able to breathe preceding my first ride, I came to the realization that I needed to quit :drooling:

So I quit THAT DAY cold turkey and never looked back. Not one relapse, nothing! My motivation was the bike. The bike was my therapy, and if it wasn't for the bike, I don't think i would have been so successful. 5 years later and I feel like a million bucks. In many ways I actually feel younger. I suspect that if you stick with it, you may have similar results 🙂

I cannot stand the smell of cigs any more. Completely and utterly repulsive! I can't say that I ever get the urge to have one ever again. The shit is straight up NASTY yo!

Oh and it looks like we'll be racing together at LM.

Welcome, and I will see you at the starting line :getsome:
