Best bike for 6mr?

I don't have a very creative response other than:

I built and or designed most of the trails at 6 mile with a 29er SS in mind as that has been my main bike for a few years.

Gears are OK but not needed. Suspension is practical up front and overkill in the rear.

Maybe spence will chime in as he just borrowed my bike and took it out there after riding a 29er dualie for the last year.

For 6 mile I ride my hardtail while I shoulder my long travel bike the whole time. Then when I hit the wooden drop I switch bikes in mid air.

Get a bike you can rude everywhere.

I've ridden 26 HT, 26 FS and 29 HT at 6Mile.

The 26 FS is most comfortable and fun. I'm fastest on the 29 HT which is the lightest one. YMMV.

Just figured this would be a fun thread

I appreciate all the responses serious or not. Figured it had been a while since the 29'r koolaid had been spilled.

I can dig the SS deal but I really like my gears. Maybe if I rode serious enough for a couple of years I'd build up the leg strength+Speed to be able to rock a Single at the pace I like to ride but right now it's just not an option

And yeah 6mr can be riddien on a rigid, esp a 29'r but I think a front fork helps with a little bit extra control with only a small weight penalty. The areas I ride definitely don't require a FS at all.

As far as 26vs29 - I think part of it is lack of experience on the 29'r I think a hardtail 1x9 29'r would really suit me well.

Anyway keep the rubber side down guys and have fun out there that's all that counts

Greard/SS Rigid can go anywhere ...
it really depends on :
- how you body can take the beatings
- your ability to pick the right lines (after 1 hour riding at 90% HR )
-how long /how fast you are planing to ride

going now for Harshorne ride on my 5" FS geared ....

I used to think same as you but riding the ss is what got me into shape fastest. That and riding fixie on the road.

all kidding aside....gears or not, front suspension or not...you need to seriously consider getting a 29er.

while I can total see why someone would want gears (after all only freaks ride singlespeed) and/or front suspension (not everyone likes to rattle their kidneys)....I honestly see no reason for 26 inch wheels.

you can get a decent geared 29er with front suspension for $800-$1k

I loves me some Kool Aid. I used to think I was too old (actually I am old:cry🙂 for a rigid ss. So I bought a fs 26r. Then I tasted the Kool Aid. Now I'm an old guy riding a Mary (about the only girl I ride anymore🙄) I keep the fs to introduce newbies to the sport.
