Best bike for 6mr?

What's everyones concept of a perfect Bike for 6mr?

I'm riding a near ancient (cira 97) schwinn homegrown that has v brakes and a rock shock judy. I love the bike but it's getting long in tooth and it's getting time to upgrade.

I love 6mr and ride there the most often so was curious what everyone thought was the best bike for the trails there?

26 vs 29?
Rigid vs hardtail vs Full Suspension?
Gears vs Single Speed?

I am most likely going to end up with another geared 26'r hardtail but I am curious to see what everyones take on the perfect bike might be.
 
29 rigid SS.

at 6MR there is no need for gears and, IMHO, no need for suspension (certainly NOT rear)

and why get 26" wheels?

6MR is MADE for 29 rigid SS

Agreed with Pearl. If your mostly doing 6mile.... 29er. But gears and a fork will allow you to go other places.

Let me be the first to not pour 6 gallons of kool-aid down your throat. As long as you stay away from anything long travel and keep it relatively light and XC oriented your good to go. Over the past few years I've had two 4" travel full sussers, a 26" hardtail, and now a 29er hardtail, and I feel that not one of them was better suited to 6-mile than another. It's all personal preference my friend, test ride stuff and figure out what works for you. Whatever your the most comfortable on is going to be the fastest bike for you at 6-mile or anywhere else for that matter.


ps. A geared bike is ALWAYS faster. Just some food for thought.
 
1x9 hardtail with a suspension fork is perfect for 6MR. No real need for disc brakes there either although they're nice to have in the wet and 98% of bikes these days come with them anyway. Wheel size is up to you. I run a 26" hardtail from 2001 with vbrakes and i can do a loop in 1:30 ride all the features and feel good. A rigid SS would be nice to have as a SECOND bike to ride there when you want to have a different experience. A FS bike there just seems silly unless it's a super XC oriented one with minimal travel. Maybe a softail?

DAMNIT i just clicked into this thread expecting to type the exact same thing.

I'm too slow yet again.... damn these 26" wheels, i need a 29er to keep up with you guys on here
 
+1 on FR SS 29er with 1 flat tire and another filled with cement after a night of drinking.
