That's really odd

Here is another link for 349 with hrm.

Says he has 10 in stock, and it's a powerseller. May want to consider canceling that transaction unless he guarantees that it comes tomorrow or day after. Ridiculous though. At this point he may want you to cancel the xaction to avoid a bad review (then he simply relists), but he can't I think make the first move. I'm guessing, don't know much about innerworkings of Ebay.

PS, this guy wants to charge you $23 USPS shipping from NY. Probably negotiable.

That's the same guy.

My guess is that he was possibly also away, and came back to a load of things to take care of. And most of these people have real jobs and so on. So he's probably struggling to make it all work. I'm usually an "all's well that ends well" kinda guy so as long as he says it will be 8 days, I'm fine with it. Just be honest.

The $23 is because he makes you buy $20 insurance.

By the way, just noticed you were within 1 minute of Fred's time, net to net. Not too shabby.

I'm faster with the SS here, but my SS is much lighter than the geared bike. The race course is nothing but ups and downs. Where would you spin out? There's really no flat sections that come to mind other than the fire road start and a few patches of 100 yards here and there.

I figured 32-18 was kinda low. So this is probably a worthless point anyway. A 29er SS was not in the budget this year, so my SS is just a hacked together mess of old parts.

I found I spun out badly on the fireroad from the end of the trail to the pavillion. Leading into the long rocky climb that follows the switch back climb, then again on the kinda flat section that ends at the parking lot. Mainly the downhills though. I find that most of the downhills at LM, im pedaling down since they are really not technical. I will have to try it on lightweight 29er SS one day and see how fast i can do it.

And he didn't need to pass anyone.

Actually I say that but I think having people in front of me makes me go faster. Every time I see someone I want to hunt them down and kill them. It was my goal to pass the whole class ahead of me, and I did it in the first lap. Then I wanted to take out as many of the SSers as I could. So imagine my surprise when the guy behind me did the same and then some!

Motivation is a big thing.

I have found myself once again in 3rd place with no one that I could see ahead except other age groups, and no one chasing.

So I get lazy and don't push to the maximum.

But based on the time, I was pretty close to the two front guys. There is a lesson in there somewhere.

Passing though is a disadvantage, I went down kind of hard when a fat guy went left when I told him I was going left. My ass looks like Ben's leg.

You're new at it, you'll get better at passing. Your passing gear will also get more refined so that you need less room. That takes time. I almost never have problems passing now. There was one SS goofball that gave me bad mojo, but he got his. I came up on him and said, "Just letting you know I'm here."

He replies something to the effect of, "Yeah yeah take it easy."

So he does nothing to get out of the way. This is the last 1+ mile of the first lap, Peanut Butter Aisle. He hits a turn too fast, clearly not wanting to let me go, and he goes down. I give him the cursory, "you ok?" as I ride by him. But he earned that karmic blow.

Oddly, the guy who normally wins your class was not there. Aaron won Sunday, who was with me last year. Your main problem there is that he got stronger as the year went on, so he likely does little over the winter and then ramps up through the year. I think he may have won Ringwood last year in a very competetive sport 35-39 class. So it's doubtful he will fade out as the season goes on. There's your motivation. Remind me to introduce you at LM.

No need to post the pic of your ass.

Looks like the guy Aaron barely edged out is a big time (former?) cyclocross racer, cat 1/2/3, was sponsored by peoplesoft about 7-8 years ago. if it's the same guy. he comes from CT where this year he has two #1 finishes out of two starts in their series so far this year.

The Aaron I'm thinking of is from Montclair. I don't think he's the same guy. But if it's the same name, that sure would be curious. As far as I know, he's really recreational. After the Waway race we were talking and he was saying how he didn't want to be forced to have to upgrade because he has trouble getting on the bike much a lot of weeks. Post some of the info about the CT guy.

The guy that Aaron edged out. Dominique Desmonts.

I just looked at the times. Fred, myself, and the guy who beat me were all within a minute. We had the 3 fastest cat 2 times.

Things may be different than normal at LM. LM traditionally brings out the biggest fields, and the roadies will show up for this one. There are a many fast 40+ roadies out there so you may suddenly find yourself among a much faster class. I believe there was a cat 1 High Gear guy in the sport class last year that got rave reviews about his appearance 🙄

Edit - got it, the guy he edged out.

I was hoping you would chime in 🙂

Thanks, worked like a charm. The bottom pile was the lap button. The top pile was the start/stop button. Works like new again:

Holy crap dude. Looks like you had an ant colony in your GPS. Hah.

GPS
Given the history of these devices it's not a bad idea to keep the 205 for redundancy.

I had this same thought. I am waiting to finish off the selma and the 705 is next on the list. I thought of selling the 305 pretty cheap but Im thinking now its work it to keep for days like sunday.

just buy the damn 18T. fer fawks sake, you spend bling-a-ding on all kinds of crap but the $40 cog and $7 1/2 link don't make the cut?

If you throw on a new chain and set it up with the 19 you most likely should be able to squeeze the 18 on there.

Commence mind fvcking!!!

I was thinking about this today. Do you guys send PMs back and forth to try and get me to waffle? On the 4th lap today I could barely turn the cranks over on that 1 switchback climb. I'm not going into the race knowing I'll be walking a hill at any point.

My thoughts that may interest only me:

1. If you ride a given course faster on a SS, it is because you don't know how to use friggin gears. 🙄

2. Racers don't walk up hills. We RUN.

1. If you ride a given course faster on a SS, it is because you don't know how to use friggin gears. 🙄

Maybe. It may also be the case for me that I pace myself poorly with gears. One thing I noticed today that even with the forced down time of the SS, and not going entirely at race pace, my HR was far, far higher than I would have estimated it at. For the 2+ hour ride I came in just under LTHR for the ride.

I may have pacing problems that the SS helps me manage by default. If I take today's time for the expert course (actually today's is longer because a trail has been rerouted) with crap conditions and only a few days after a very tough race, that places me 12th in the 2008 expert field and 7th in the SS expert field. So riding that bike does something positive for my lap times.

I have to agree with this. There is no doubt in my mind that I would be faster on a geared hardtail than I am on my full rigid SS. Even guys like Mike Montalbano, or Foco, as much as they kill it on the SS, are gonna be faster with gears.

Some image that is blocked by my work filter. 😱

LOL, I can't see the image but know what it is based on the filename. I was a huge Adam West era Batman fan. I used to jump around my room kicking the stuffing out of my teddy bears yelling Bam!!!, Wham!!!, Pow!!!, etc. :hysterica
