Car-spotting thread

Conventional, 5qt + 1.
it is $100 for mobile 1.

would be into it for $40-50 diy. I think the Boxster has a couple of must-replace gaskets/o-rings.
Then ya need to dump the oil, and bring the filter to hazardous waste day.

Other than the hack dumping oil on the exhaust manifold (I don't know how you do this with a filling nozzle)
and the chance they leave the cap or plug off.......totally worth it.

Should just be the filter which comes with the corresponding replacement O-ring, and a new crush washer/gasket for the drain plug. Also need the correct filter housing socket unless you happen to have one.

Definitely a fair chance of creating a mess draining the oil, but it can be avoided if you're careful. Overall very similar to any other car, just with slightly more difficult access based on the engine configuration.

I just spent $110 at Valvoline and now thinking about doing them myself again. This was over 5 qts synthetic, I think last time was only $75 and before that I was doing dealer but out of warranty now.

did they include it for free for the warranty period?

I dont know, I have seen/heard too many jiffy lube horror stories, i'd rather just do it myself.
I've always changed my own oil on the STI but one time I had Subaru do it because it was in the shop getting something else done so I figured why not. Next time I went to change the oil I was able to unthread the drain plug by hand. It was as if the tech threaded it by hand, went to get a wrench to tighten it down, and just forgot. To this day I can't believe it didn't wiggle out while I was driving and blow my motor. Never, ever again.

Nah, but I don't recall it being that much either, I think only 70-80, but I also don't trust them to touch the vehicle now that the warranty is up and I don't have to argue with anything if I have a warranty issue. They tried to sell non-stop, did shit work, either over or under-torqued all the lugs on the tires leading to problems, and lied about everything in the report they gave. Overall a pretty shitty experience, but to avoid hassles during warranty periods I usually deal with stuff like that. They were also right next to my office so I could drop it off and walk 5 minutes to the office so convenience wasn't bad.

I keep seeing this car in my office parking lot....looks to be a JDM Legacy wagon. RHD, manual. Im sure it probably has some cool/interesting drivetrain that was never offered in the US. BECAUSE WE'RE AMAERICANS AND WE WANT THE TRIBECA!

Subaru sold the legacy wagon here in various trims and also offered a manual. I had a ‘99 GT that looked just like this one in silver with a 5MT. That said perhaps the JDM versions had a better power plant. Mine at 165 hp was pretty anemic.

I remember trying to find the last ones (legacy wagons) made (2006 IIRC) when I was looking to replace my wife's 2000 outback...this was ~2011.....found a few, but they are all beat.

yes...I mean I know from personal experience...when I was a 16 year old dumb ass who went to work at an automotive shop....What did they have me do first? Run parts, change oil, fix tires....I mean I had worked with my dad as a kid, but I had no REAL experience....pretty much this is who is changing your oil at jiffy lube...any good mechanic has moved on from doing this. I mean you if have a private shop and you know the people...different story, but the chain places, I wouldnt trust. Thats my opinion and why I change my own oil...its easy to do and I have seen and heard too many horror stories.

Got the first pic from my middle sons (22) feed he is in NC for the ST experience that came with his purchase. He took my youngest (17) with him they got to do a bunch of cool driving challenges. Not that jealous he didn’t ask me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Jeep was coated in bed liner at CT Flanders trailhead yesterday.

Nothing better than beating the S out of someone else's cars.

Here you go @UtahJoe. 2025 Maverick Hybrid available in AWD and Eruption Green and the new 13-inch infotainment screen out of the Escape. XL is about $30,000 with the CoPilot 360 1.0 package you need to get power mirrors and spray in bedliner. The Ecoboost is apparently an all-new motor, which is surprising. Different block, heads, intake, port injection, and GPF. And Ecoboost no longer available in FWD, but AWD is only $1000.

Euro car here. Changed the oil with an oil pump I use for boat for the first time. Maybe didn’t get out 1/4 quart. $65 oil and filter. Yes please on the pump!

It’s electric. Seaside heights. Forgot to snap a cockpit photo. it was F1 like. I couldn’t really make out what it was based on. I’m sure it’s on IG etc
