Headlines about Toyota solid state batteriesToyota coming out with a solid-state battery that goes 745 miles and charges in 10 minutes. Even they are saying adios to H2:
"While Toyota has been a proponent of hydrogen cars, this breakthrough in EV batteries suggests a shift in the company's approach to the post-ICE future."

Would be nice if its true, but they have been saying this for almost 10 years now.
745 miles of charge in 10 minutes doesn't even make sense. You can't physically make a connector on the car that can handle that kind of power without melting. 1500amps @ 800V for 10 minutes?
Even if that was 20% to 80% type of charging in 10 minutes it's still probably around 1200A at a 800V. They going to higher those Strongest Man winners to man the station to lift the connector and cable onto the car?
If they're going to make shit up, why not just say it'll just need one charge a year and it can go 15,000 miles?

I tried to find the actual quote regarding 10 minutes, but the original Guardian article just states the same thing. My best guess is that it's something like the battery composition would allow it, but as you point out I'm not sure how it could possibly be done in practice.
Isn't there a Toyota charging station not far from you?Maybe they will use an inductive charging pad ?? 😀
Too bad the term lightning connector is already taken.
As an aside - I think a robot arm to handle the attachment is the wtg. can include a drying agent if raining/wet,
takes any concerns of weight away - even dealing with the cable is a problem for some.

First article you posted actually has good info, but the amount of effort required to do a 10 minute charge is huge. Lots of crazy $$$ technology with minimal payback.
Which hardly matters if you just extend the time to a reasonable "fast" recharge time combined with charging overnight. If you've got a long road trip and we get more stations where there's food stops people will be covered.
And longer waits of a half hour plus during long road trips is offset by leaving your house with a full charge on a regular basis.
Rental of battery trailers for long trips. Maybe they have minimal storage for "stuff" but mostly towing extra juice......
