Chimney Rock Conditions

As the glacier receded from that lower blue middle section, it left behind a ravine in the middle of the trail with exposed roots suspended 6-8” in the air across it.

I didn’t stop to take a picture, but it’s an impressive sight. Gonna need some remediation for sure.

Took a scenic hike into yellow today at 3. Trails for the most part were snow covered. As others pointed out, beneath the heavy, compacted snow was still alot of wet mud and standing water. Guessing this should all freeze solid by Monday morning given the forecast of teens tonight.

View up yellow toward Gilbride.

Yep. Was a good ride Tuesday. Did blue, white, orange, that frisbee golf section, and red. Followed fat bike tracks on a bunch and surprisingly made the only tracks on more than a few trails. Mine were the only skinny bike tracks I saw.
I guess it’s over now considering the warmup.
Y’all be cool.

Got on the bike a little after 7am. Did part of blue. It was a crust of ice on top of pretty soft ground. Softer Than silly putty. I know blue is the wettest but it was the half frozen ground and the temps warming from that point that made me throw in the towel. The ground is warm from the last few days.

Sunday morning should be mint.

Yeah blue was the worse by far. Lower blue was like riding through a stream bed for several hundred feet. Hit everything else and conditions were much better. Mostly solid but frequent patches of thin crusted ice or a slurry of slush and frozen leaves that killed forward momentum. Yellow, white and red were notably better than the other trails. By 930, it was in the high 20s and surfaces were softening more in direct sun. Was out before 10. Agreed that tomorrow am will be better.

Tree down at handlebar height on upper blue by the trail feature. Told a ranger I bumped into about it so might be taken care of already.

Lots of frozen solid ruts and half-frozen puddles.

Smaller tree at knee height across orange. Teamed up with a cool ranger and we pushed it off trail.

Bet it's already a total mess now at 11ish am. Best to stay away until early tomorrow.

I went for a run on blue and red this afternoon. While by no means dry, it wasn't quite as bad as I expected.

Another warm, sunny day would do wonders, but it seems like winter is coming back tomorrow.

We walked the dog on the ball field trails today. Jeez this loop is a mess.

Please do not ride that loop for the next few days. Tomorrow it is going to be a holy hand grenade of slop. I would imagine much of the park will be bad the rest of today and tomorrow.

Indeed. Did an early loop down blue from Old Tullo, white to ball fields and bullpen, up bitch back and across the up the Logan fire road.

Many parts were still partly frozen and tolerable but turning bad quickly. And that ball fields trail will swallow you whole.

I just ordered a Stages SB20 trainer, we have to do what it takes to get us through these difficult times.

Went this afternoon. It’s not amazing but perfectly rideable. Best it has been when above freezing since before the first snow.

If you string the connectors on red and blue properly, you can avoid the bad parts. Orange and yellow are OK. Rocks on yellow climb are slippery but mud is limited. Fat tires recommended.

So opine on this weekend, please.
