Chimney Rock Conditions

I'll do my usual red as schedule allows, last time I rode it wasn't too bad, but will keep in mind. Also 2 small trees down on red I've been meaning to get to but, well, work and life, ugh.

Perfect response. This hand saw weighs almost nothing, and takes up so little space that you can always keep it w/ you.

We have sold them in the past with lukewarm response. I'll stock them again if people are interested.
I would grab one for sure, would make easy work of the 2 small trees down on red that I haven't gotten around to bringing the chainsaw (overkill) to.

If more people carried these it would take some of the load off of the more extensive chainsaw missions. While those pictures were an extreme example, you can cut through smaller stuff much more quickly. We've been using these on group rides with 2-4 riders for years. If you're not in a rush trying to crush a Strava segment (which the tree may have killed anyway), take a few minutes and cut the tree out!

Unfortunately 99 of every 100 riders DGAF and just move on with their day.

Add it to the waiver if that's a concern

It's a shitty rainy day so bear with me. We are such a preposterous society now. We all have a collection of kitchen knives in our house that would make the Manson family proud. Yet any possible chance to stub a toe and we need to consult with a lawyer and blah blah blah fuck rain.

Or something.

Lol.... I was just assuming it would be a concern of theirs....

As far as conditions go, tonight was fabulous. Maybe less so tomorrow.

We need people to volunteer to help trim. It’s going to overgrow fast. Who wants to help?
I’ll plan to sneak out for a quick session at lunch on Monday provided nothing blows up at work.

I've been doing my deed here for a bit...just never really post about it. Whenever there is a down tree, I do what I can with my silky saw. Below pictures are what I've done last year with a small 210mm silky saw:

Lower orange. Two other riders actually ended up helping me as well:

This year, I ended up buying a BIGBOY 360mm silky saw. It's like a size of a machete...kind of.

I tried using it for the first time on the tree below a few weeks ago. This is at the beginning climb on red, Newman's side. Unfortunately, I failed and the saw got stuck about halfway through it. Probably because I'm still out of shape and haven't been to the gym? Who knows...But now I'm interested in buying that pocket chainsaw that @jdog mentioned and giving that a try for these larger trees.

I pay my JORBA fees and do what I can here!

Maybe offer a discount on a trail saw and point them to @jdog ’s shop for fulfillment if he’s up for it?) They may end up picking up a water bottle, tube or e-bike while there? 😁
We're open to any incentives to drive membership to a number which is more representative of our community. Who is going to make it happen? What about the other shops in NJ?

We are volunteer fueled, as you know, with a major surplus of good ideas and major deficit of bandwidth to execute on the good ideas that come in.

I do the same with my Silky, on all the trails I ride.

I consider CR my home away from home. That said, as a Staten Islander any free time I get for dedicated trail maintenance goes towards NYCMTB and working with NYC Parks to expand our access here. And I feel increadibly guilty in having to say that. Hopefully I can do more in the future for JORBA.
