Chimney Rock CX practice (wednesdays)

You are not going to see grass shorter than that in a race. Last week it was twice as long and wet. The grass often gets matted down during the races. Later racers get a small benefit from that.

Good thing C's will go last...😀

Yes but...the sponge effect is fully squished by then. In other words, embrace the mud! 🙂

2nd day of Horseshoe last year - C's got a nice cold EARLY start on firm steady ground. The end-of-the-day fast guys got mud. And grass. And peanut butter. Reversing that start order is gonna be interesting. Hello learning curve!

Great video, Ben!
Thanks for getting me, looking like a dufus, trying to get my chain back on after the barriers!!!!

Actually, my chain was really ON, I just wanted to stop and rest.....lol, lol

M35's had the morning frost at the first Sussex, and it was interesting to watch them race over it vs. a C racer. They were much more fluid, 80% pace to get through the tricky, off-camber part on the grass, vs. C's who are always hell for leather b/c it's 200m into the first lap and don't want to crash. The M35's still had some crashes, but nothing like in C's.

So it is true that even the Cat1/Pro Women drop chains too! 😀

Here I am following Jim for a lap during the second 20-minute interval of CX practice last week.

Awesome video Ben! You and Jim were riding fast. I thought I saw Jim flip a lever near his seat post at the barriers! :hmmm:

Wednesday bump. Looks like we're gonna have another beautiful evening of cyclocrossing. Come out and join the party 😀

-Jim.

Thanks for coming out y'alls!! Sure was muddy. That hurt a little 😱

PS-Super thanks to the break-down crew!! It helps a ton!!

-Jim.

good times. looking forward to the video. I showed up late and jumped into the first? ride mid-way through.

I noticed a guy with a helmet cam (BikeN'Ben?) pass me just after my VERY FIRST ("virgin") approach at the hurdles...not a smooth operation 😉...so, if his video was going, we may have video evidence of my very first attempt.

Thanks all once again!! Beautiful evening to be out. Surprised there was still mud holes in those 2 sections. After the monsoon this weekend next week should be very wet, get your mud tires glued up 😀

-Jim.

is this on for tomorrow? no idea of conditions in the local area.

I did a road ride on my MTN yesterday & went by there to check it out. The course is fine. Did a complete lap. A bit muddy on the lower side as to be expected & that's about it. No debris at all. Grass is pretty long & I doubt they'll cut in by tomorrow.

I was going to head over there in a few to check it out and make the call. Thanks for saving me a trip Kirt 😀

As long as you can get there, practice is on. There's a ton of roads closed around the area so just be careful.

-Jim.

Is 287N to 22 east to Thompson Ave to Chimney Rock Road clear?

Oh crap - I forgot I have to go back to work tomorrow - Any word on 206 North from Hamilton Princeton area up to 22?

I was on 206 yesterday. It was closed going north into Princeton due to flooding. Then again north of Princeton due to downed tree and wires. The northern spot should be clear today. The southern one may have damaged the roadway at a small bridge. I'll be in the area later today and will see if I can get you an update.
