Do you care about your KOMs?

I've never gone for anything there. I've only actually tried for KOMs in Chimney Rock and Round Valley. With Ross, John, and Jeff being Hartshorne locals I don't think any of us stand a chance.
Until CR locals come and crush some times like What happened this week

Man look at that load in 3rd place. Seems like so long ago. Oh wait...

Some of the bogus times is due to Gps errors. So say your gps is pulling points that are -50' (with the testing we have done at work using survey grade gps, we have seen up to 150' error) feet from your actually location but as your approach the end of the segment, it grabs a point +50', boom, 100' gained in a second.
Nope, I'll explain when i get to a computer.

Man I miss when we were going back and forth taking the KOM on your street lol
thats my favorite, making segments that maybe only a few ride and create battles. also stalk the people who live by you

This one is a concrete bridge over some train tracks that ends at a chain link fence, i think the last time i attempted this i locked up my road bike into the fence only to have someone take it 2 days later 🙁

or this one that is slightly downhill and always a tail wind vs @Carsons buddy

i should try these next week.....

This is one of the few I would like to get back someday...I had this one for a while, but steve crushed it...ok ok...he actually tried and failed twice and I would be lying if I said that I ddint get a kick out of that.....Then I think he stopped fucking around and sent it into orbit....steve is a legit fast guy who is really into strava...I will probably need to take my helmet visor off and maybe use my drops lol.

so i feel like they shouldn't take those times away from that guy in LA because who knows what the next guy in line is sticking in his ass cheeks to get that #2 spot.

I like Strava for a number of reasons and I never come close to KOM's:
  1. It lets me keep track of if I'm getting faster or slower.
  2. It lets me see how much faster people are than me, even when I think I'm really moving which I find really cool.
    • The Red trail down at Ringwood is <a mile long segment and the top guys on that are woopin' me by ~3 minutes and I'm 50 out of 390 people. 3 minutes faster is crazy fast and I don't know how they do it. Granted, I've ridden it with a bunch of those guys there and they were out of sight within 15 seconds of starting.
  3. It has been a great way for me to find new places to ride.
I completely understand why people would get attached to their KoM's. If you're a competitive person you're going to want to win and that's totally understandable. Lots of people take racing pretty seriously which means that they are definitely competitive. I feel like lots of people say "I don't care about my KOM's, it's just a dumb Strava thing..." or whatever in an attempt to act like they're not hyper competitive for some reason. Is it uncool to admit that you're competitive and like to win?

I don't know; I truly am heroically uncompetitive when it comes to how I stack up against other people (anyone who has ridden with me knows this, I don't apologize for making people wait for me) so I don't identify with becoming attached to things like KoM's. But that doesn't mean that I don't understand why other people would be. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be first in the same way as there is nothing wrong with not giving a shit if you're last.
