I am honestly eBike ignorant. At RV yesterday I saw a dude with an e-motorcycle. I mean in no way could you say it was anything but a motorcycle but it was electric as it sounded like a Tesla. I have no idea the difference in all these things. What is the Levo?
Levo is a class 1
Pedal assist up to 20mpg.

Class 1: Pedal-assist only; motor provides assistance all the way up to 20 mph. Class 2: Pedal-assist or throttle; motor provides assistance all the way up to 20 mph. Class 3: Pedal assist only; motor provides assistance all the way up to 28 mph.

Class 2 is vague because there are bikes hitting the 45mph mark, in otherwords its a motor bike acting as a bicycle.

Your class 3 are typically gravel and road pedal assist bikes

Already done by one of my friends (I assume). I couldn't find the ride myself.

A Sur Ron X is a light motorcross bike. It's not an e-bike of any kind IMHO.
For the purposes of Strava however, does it matter? It's not like there's a settings on Strava for:
Class-1 E-Bike on a low setting and peddling really hard
Class-1 E-Bike on high setting and peddling softly

So really anything that's not fully human powered is power assisted riding and gets grouped together.

I think Matty is saying it's OK if max speed is 28mph if I'm reading this Class 1/2/3 thing right.

No
Emtb class 1 is 20mph max assist
ERoad/Egravel class 3 is 28mph max assist
But isn't what Norm is describing kind of a dual-sport eBike? So I guess class 3 so that you can ride to the park and ride the mtb trails?

So it would fall under the class 3 not class 1. So max of 28mph.

Class 3 is pedal assist, 28mph, and not offered in any off-road platform. It would be a Vado, Creo, Haul and other Road/Commuter types. Class 2 is the wild west of e things. No speed or terrain limits and throttle based. This is where you'll find the delivery bikes that are burning down buildings in NYC and the Motorcycles that have been terrorizing 6-Mile Run, etc. Class 2 is where all of the Legislation and bad press comes from. Also most of the e bike hate I'd imagine because as I've said a whole lot of times, a fit cyclist is still faster than any e bike in the woods. So if you whine about an e biker passing you it's because you suck at bikes.

Not an e-bike hater... but what I do hate is the "I'm going to do whatever the fuck I want to even if it's illegal" attitude....

Goes for e-bikes riding in places like DuPont and analog bikers riding in South Mountain.

You do more harm to the sport overall.

Joy, you are one of my favorite people.
take no shit.

i gotta call ya on this one.

.

So the examples are either mostly fictional or Nazis.

I'll give you Nelson Mandela as a rule breaker. But let's face it, fighting apartheid isn't the same as mountain biking.

Mostly white male, middle and upper class with thousands to spend on bikes to ride around in the woods get whiney because they want bigger, now-motorized bikes to ride in said woods but the rules say they can't so they're going to do it anyway?!

Riding an eBike on the trails is like going 30 in a 25. Don’t we have better shit to care about?
Yes. Like the shower I really need to take after my analog bike ride I just got home from.

Obviously I'm in the minority here with e-bikes. C'est la vie. Not the first time I disagree. Maybe I'll change my opinion as time goes on. Maybe not. I hear I am the captain of my own soul tho. So I'll be me the best I can.

Wood need same shower after Class 1 EBike ride tho… 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔😜

Ironically hearing the same complaints 30 years later that were said then about those damn mountain dew mountain bikers wrecking our trails and experience. Most ironically is it's now coming from mountain bikers, who would of thought.

That Sur Ron sent me down the rabbit hole reading about things I suddenly think I should own. 🙂. There are definitely people for whom the e-motorcyles appeal because they can get away with poaching trails.

Right now, two of the trail systems I ride often in PA have problem with actual dirt bikes and quads on the trails and in some cases, attempting drastically modify the trails to make them better/wider for quads (Pennypack).

e-Bikes are the least of anyone's worries...

Coworker of mine loves his. Ended up being his commuter bike and often hits the trails on the way home. And small offices tend to have a 120VAC outlet and not complain about charging a bike vs having car chargers.

They look like so much fun. I hope that we can find a solution to appease all of these competing interests and types of vehicles (yeah right), because I'd love to own something like that and have a legal place to ride.
