When it comes to replacing oil usage in transportation, electric cars aren't the only answer. In fact, e-bikes provide a much bigger impact.

Simple physics. It takes a lot more energy to move a person in a 4000+ lbs. car than on a 50 lbs. bike, especially when on the bike not all of the propulsion is from the battery.

Specs are interesting... up to 100 mile range in Eco mode. 31.6 seat post hints at dropper compatibility, although I don't see anything about a cable routing port.

If there is a way to use a dyno front hub to charge the battery during descents, this could be the ultimate touring bike I've been dreaming about for years.

In a way, the single build-kit option makes sense. It's $10K. Period. If you can afford it and it meets your needs, pick a size.
 
Just makes no sense to me to own a drop bar e bike in NJ to me. If you live in the Rocky Mountains and any route you take leads to 5k+ feet of climbing, sure, it might make sense. Most of my road rides are 15-20 miles long and I am really surprised if I see more than 1500 feet of climbing…… and $10,000 bucks? It should come with a “ more money than brains “ in big letters jersey.

Isn’t the point of a road bike more to get in shape anyway? Around here just pick a flat route.

Makes total sense to me.

Moots' prime customers are the retired folks treating themselves to a bike. The same base of customers mountain E-Bikes have. Lots of people who traded health for wealth during their career.

So similar reasons for buying an electric mountain bike. Loss of fitness, injury, or keeping up with a faster wife/husband.

And not everyone lives in NJ so why is it dumb? Your Rocky Mountain example is a perfect example of where it makes total sense. And the same argument can be said about mountain biking in NJ, it's pretty flat. The highest point in NJ is 1800 feet! Must all be flat!

It's funny because when I was into bike touring, simple & easy was the prime concern in a bike build. Plenty of people with with 26" wheels as you can find tubes/tires anywhere. Cable rim brakes, older 9-speed setups, etc. But in the US most of those concerns really go out the window especially if you're willing to spend $$ to bail out of an issue during a tour.

This bike is probably great for credit card touring. Takes a ton of the stress off your body and mind, can charge at night while sleeping.

4 friends of mine did an organized tour in Europe this year and they had a choice of regular vs E-Bikes. Being able to switch to E-Bikes mid-trip saved some of their entire vacations due to injury/illness during the tour. Also allowed being able to enjoy the trip overall without being beaten up with the mileage & elevation.
 
At this point in my life, fuck-yeah any touring I do will be at least partially credit-card touring. I'm past the point of suffering just for the sake of suffering.

The funny part is at 33 lbs., the Moots e-bike weighs about the same, if not a bit less, than the first (unloaded) touring bikes I had 30+ years ago, so even if I have to pedal a dead battery around it wouldn't be a big deal. The one change I'd want to make is swapping the single chain ring for a dual with a front derailleur so I'd have a bail-out granny gear.

If i was just a *weee* bit closer (meaning not having to actually pass the police station en route) to get to the main pinelands trail heads, i'd have had one long ago.
 
Because most people like to justify their own life choices by examining others DUH!

Honestly, I got tired of pedaling, sweating, dehydrating, swelling, same trails and end up at the same place (start/end) so that’s why I’m enjoying the motorcycle these days. Road E-bike would be nice to go farther, faster, see more, enjoy more. My own propulsion isn’t hitting the spot anymore but a hummer may.
