So sram finally announced their entry into the emotor category. Kinda underwhelming IMO as its just a rebranded brose motor with an autoshift. Plenty of youtubes if you care but I didn't even find one that inspired enthusiasm.

This autoshift thing that is bound to be pushed on everyone will never last. It's just technology fluff. Reactive shifting is not the future, the bike should predict what's in front of you and change gears accordingly.

They took the entire Specialized E-Bike eco system and just rebranded it by the looks of it. Really surprised Specialized would allow that to happen…

That's exactly what I'm thinking. It can't possibly know a climb or tech sections is coming to start the downshift or how much to downshift by? Maybe in a few years they'll add to the complexity by having a camera up front to detect the terrain for predictive measures.

Sync with GPS, million dollar ideas all day
Oh good, more complexity and GPS is so accurate in the woods. Will the GPS detect rock gardens, log overs and newly fallen logs? I know you might be saying that with tongue in cheek but I'm just being a Debbie Downer and I may be a control freak but I just don't like machines or others to think for me or tell me what I should do. The stick shift in my daily driver is proof of that.

I agree with keeping everything simple but singlespeeders manage to do everything in the wrong gear and they manage everything fine.

Autoshifting on a regular bike will never take off. Autoshifting on an ebike, that's something that is worth trying.

I can see autoshift working on the road or gravel but not in the emtb world with tremendously changing terrain. I think personally pinion e1.12 has my innovation award and hope to see this progress. Getting rid of derailleurs chains and cogs
Is essential in the emtb world.

A lot of E-bikes are ridden by newer mtb riders who stick to rail trails. This will be perfect for them.
I see a *ton* of E-bikes on the rail trail here. I'd say actual ratio of people who are using the rail trail for the trail itself may be at 80% E-Bike while those using it as a pass-through are maybe 5% E-Bike.

I'd be curious if trails like Columbia Trail and the D&R have a ton more riders than in the past due to E-Bikes.

I think the integrated gearbox is the future of eMTB.

I think the auto downshift would be useful. (bike automatically downshifts to correct gear as you accelerate down hill)

I know I'm just speculating and I'll probably end up liking auto shift if I ever get to try it but right now I just don't see how it can predict when to shift and by how many gears. Sometimes when there's just one obstacle I won't even bother downshifting and just power through it but if there are consecutive similarly sized obstacles then I would want to downshift. Auto shift can't know what scenario I'm in.

auto downshift would be shifting to an easier gear automatically as a hill gets steeper, what you are describing is auto upshift.

D&R is probably 50% e bike / 50% families of 10 or more blocking the trail while staring up into the trees with headphones on.
