EnduroRama-Salisbury: Reg closes 7/18

I'm just guessing here, but the time based approach requires one ranking process at the end based on total aggregate winner. The point based talley from each section required ranking all of the participants at every segment, requiring sorting out the results five times. I wonder if they are trying improve on the amount of time it took to determine the winners at the allamuchy event.

I went back there last night and did another loop of the course. They really cleared the brush back quite a bit since last week. There is good room for passing if necessary. I started getting a bit too cocky on the yellow trail and my front tire washed out twice in the flowing twisties. I also tried to go through the boulder trail fast and that was a totally different proposition than just clearing it methodically. aside from the the boulder trail I ran my 29er with the pro-pedal on. If you can , I would definitely run tubeless tires, or tubed tires with 40 psi + or you will get a pinch flat. There are a lot of shart narrow rocks everywhere, nothing like old rounded babyheads in Allamuchy. They also like to fill in their big logover's with dirt, turning them into really smooth ramps! They were quite luxurious!

This is a part of the reason behind the change. Definitely provide feedback after the race as we're interested to hear what the racers prefer.

Actual time makes more sense to me, both for the scorekeeper and racer. However, a points system could save a few spots to someone who has a major mechanical or gets very discombobulated with a spill.

This is the prerace report I just got from a friend of mine,

"Most was similar to blue. The boulder trail was really rocky but only for about 200 yards, the super D was really fun and pretty easy to maintain speed on. Nice and tacky dirt too after the rain. And humid, of course. Good stuff. Red trail on stages 1 and 2 will be pinch-flat central I predict, lots of pointy 3" tall rocks sticking out of the dirt... "

Can't wait.......

I'll be pre-riding at a mellow pace tomorrow at about 2. I've done a decent amount of riding there but i want to see where the courses actually end and begin. If anyone wants me to show you around I'd be happy to show you the course.

...first post. Welcome to the forum Jeff! 🙂

I'm thinking the actual start at the hospital. I've ridden it a few times from the ball field but I'd like to see everything in chronological order. Hope that works for everyone.

Took a lap today with Jeff. Thanks for showing us the secret lines! These trails ROCK! ... literally. I think I brought the wrong bike and tires, as it is very chunky. Endo'd in boulder whatever it is called. Looking forward to tomorrow.

It was a great doing enduro format for the first time. I thoroughly enjoyed it much more than hot laps. Also, the trails here are NWWWICE. Great flow and a good mix of everything, roots, rocks, boulders, and berms! Great job VMBA

I totally missed the S1 clock out and had to double back like 50 feet. S1 & 2 was pretty normal. S3 a boulder section. S4 and 5 was brown pow descents! The transition from 2 to 3 was longest and uphill. The 650b! hardtail did great but it was tough. The rocks tend to steer a HT where you don't want to go where as you just float over them on a FS. There were definitely some booters I wished I had a full suspension for. At the end of S5 you could definitely launch off this pretty big roller. I normally don't ride a hardtail on rocks but my freeride bike would be too much for enduro. If any of you have any ca$h to give me, PM me. Turner Burner?! :hmmm:

Some things I didn't like was the one guy said pass but kept pedaling while there was really no room to pass safely. DUDE you have to just stop pedaling and move over. Eventually I passed while he was still moving but I definitely got held up but I tried to be nice and calm because I wasn't going to win anyways and you always listen to the Rule#1 have a good time and don't be a dick. I think they should do heats at the beginning to avoid waiting a cold. Or just get to the start before everyone else is a good plan for the future.

One last great thing about this race was seeing all the bling I like. Full suspension, dropper posts, 26" wheels!, big stanchions! and all sorts of dope non hardtail shit you don't see at a cross country races. Oh, and I was lucky enough to walk away with some optics to replace the only pair I had and lost at the 100miler. Solid

And I saw a 29er FS OTB due to it's high center of gravity 😉

RIDE ON! Thanks for an awesome race again!

I had a great time covering this race. Everyone was super friendly and like you Manny, I enjoyed scoping out the big bikes and watching people huckn stuff.😀

Enduro #2 in the books for me now. The trails here were quite challenging for me. Perhaps a HT with minimal tires was the wrong choice, but we live and learn. I hope to be more prepared next time. Probably my biggest challenge was getting to stage one after being up all night with a stomach bug. Thanks to electrolyte drinks and the fact that in an event like this, you can just go out ride your bike if you like, I was able to rally by 9:30 and get on my bike, although a little dehydrated and woozy, I finished, and enjoyed myself.

After, I had a chance to speak with the trail builder and heard the story about how he and VMBA turned a run down dumping area into this gem of a park in the eye of the community. So glad to be a part of supporting this.

Sound out to JRZano for 2nd in the dukes class! Nice job!

Thanks Manny for covering this event. A little different vibe than at XC races, so good to get the word out to some that may not be into XC.

Definitely a fun event/format. Its a combination of race and hanging out. I still have trouble riding my best during stage 1. The ice pops after the boulder by trail hit the spot. Beating smokey by 1 second overall led to some fun after race trash talk too! Getting a good systems for beeping in and out can be pretty important too. I must have fumbled with that thing for 10-15 seconds overall at the end of the stages trying to stick it in the hole. It was nice meeting Ellen & Manny. Manny, hopefully you got some useable footage out of the GoPro, that body mount seemed to work pretty well.
