The Vuelta is also the last big chance to show yourself for a new contract.the Vuelta has been giving it a run for its money
The last few years, the Giro has picked up a reputation among the rides in the last few years of being rip-your-leg-off fast every single day. The jittery riding of the first few days has lasted the entire race. I'm not sure anyone ever identified a reason but possibly because Giro racers are all one small step from a future Tour spot and trying to prove their worth.
It makes for great TV but isn't the safest for the riders.
Also be on the lookout for TrainingPeaks screenshots when the races finishes up. Alex Howes posted this after stage 10. Huuuuuge TSS/KJ numbers.

280 TSS per day for 10 days straight sounds miserable. The average human, heck even a higher category racer, would crumble under that load. Also I don't think its humanly possible to eat 4,000-6,000 calories a day for that long. That's like, my all-time TSS. As in the cumulative TSS of my entire life.
Maybe if it was Sagan.Am I going to be famous??!
Yes, yes you will.Guys guys guys. I was at a coffee shop after a bike race today and Alex Howes walked in. A real live World Tour rider and finisher of all three Grand Tours. I creepily asked him for an awesome picture. Am I going to be famous??!
