Holy Ice Batman!

K, I'm not the only one who is confused right?

Here I will explain it for you. Unlike the piece of shit awd system in your DSM, my truck has a transfer case that is not controlled by a center diff. So when I put my truck in 4wd, the front and rear wheels turn at the same speed at all times. Accelerating or decelerating. As opposed to your car where the awd system only works when the front wheels start spinning and the center diff enguages the tranfer case, and rear wheels, etc. So in 4wd, under braking in my truck the front wheels dont lock up unless the rears do, and vise versa. So the fact that the wheels are connected directly to the engine with no differential to allow slippage helps prevent them from locking when braking on slick surfaces. Im not saying the wont lock up, im just saying it makes it a bit harder to lock them up. I dont know about you, but its much easier to stop when you are not in an uncontrolled slide. Now if you need further explination of what I am talking about, I will gladly give you a ride in my truck the next time it snows and demonstrate how this works. I wont let you drive, because I know how many times you have driven your cars+snow tires off the road in bad conditions.

Oh, I get it. You can't modulate your brakes properly and enjoy understeer because toyota cheapened out and didn't put in a LSD center diff.

LSD, good tires and some serious weight. Even with LSD and 6500 lbs I did my share of sliding around.

Driving, driving, driving. I counted at least 4 Jeeps off the road. 4wd, LSD, TC... I don't care what you have you need be be prepared to slide. Unfortunately the state requirement for a driver license does not require someone to actually know how to DRIVE.

You enjoy understeer on snow and ice? This must be why you have crashed both of your cars.

totally agree. I lived in pack city utah for 5 winters driving a 1990 5.0l mustang with the stock 225/60-15 "gatorbacks". Never ran it off the road once. Knowing how to drive in bad conditions tops 4wd, snow tires, tank tracks, etc.. any day.

I'll take the tank.

After Bill dropped me off yesterday I stayed inside. Outside was too stupid. Even if you're the best driver in the world a) you never know and b) there are other people out there.

What's up with you hippies and LSD anyway?

Im with you regarding yesterday. Like I said, people were just totally caught off guard since it looked like rain. If someone had crashed into my and didnt have snow tires, I think I would have been a bit more understanding and not stabbed them in the throat like luke would have.

LSD's like LSD offer false promises of being able to do super human feats! 🙂

I've never crashed any car. wtf are you talking about.
You enjoy understeer because with an locked center diff you lose traction with your front tires in turns. It's terrible for snow.

oh you didnt lose control of your awd car and run it off the road? You didnt spin out your hyundai? Dont bullshit, you did. Lucky for you that you didnt run into anyone and have them stab you in the throat. Although did you have snow tires on when you did this? They might have understood that you were still a responsible person 😀

Oh it will oversteer, but not nearly as bad as my awd dsm did.

Maria lost control of the hyundai on a clear dry night, and I fishtailed my galant really bad like 2 months ago in that freak sleet storm we had because I had R compunds on it. I put my snow tires on since.

You need to learn better foot control if your dsm was oversteering in the snow. Well actually you just needed to buy snow tires for it, judging a car's snow perormance while on shithole summer tires is not vaild.

This is how a typical night at Jose Tejas goes with these guys. We start talking about bikes and the next thing you know Luke and Utah are arguing about cars.

a locked center diff(transfer case), like most trucks/suvs which are 4wd (not AWD) have the advantage over AWD cars in low traction situation because while they both allow all 4 wheels to get power, in the awd situation if one wheel loosed traction all the power goes there (im assuming all "open" differentials), where as in locked t-case one wheel can lose traction and get all the power (to do nothing with) from that axle the other axle still has traction and power. Now a TRUE 4x4 (locked t-case, front and rear differential) is the ideal set up, but will not function on dry pavement since the inside and outside wheel on a turn move at different speeds, and the front and rear axle turn at different speeds (this is why trucks w/ a t-case get wheel hope in 4wd going around corners) now in the snow the traction is reduced enough that you dont notice this because the tires will slip just enough that its not an issue to the way it drives, and it wont put extra strain on the t-case, AWD does not have the problem because on an AWD car the t-case acts like a differential allowing the front/rear driveshafts to rotate at different speeds

God you lie. You spun car out and it was last winter. Cut the bullshit. Two months ago, hahahahaha Stop it, im dying over here

What tires did I have on the car? You should know this since I ran them at island many times. Nates studded snow snow tires on the white wheels remember. Car still sucked in the snow.

Just STFU, stop preaching and threatening bodily harm to people when you have done the same thing.

before luke tells you that your wrong, you should know that he does not own a 4wd vehicle such as you describe. He has a cj5 that is a relic that and has never been driven on the road. He will have no experience in what you are talking about. But he is going to tell you that you are wrong. I'll be over here watching.....

I think we need to have a snowball fight.

Just find an empty lot and practice drifting in fresh snow. OR Rent a new Camaro SS, turn off the traction control and skip the snow part. I think the rental was $175 a day, but easily ran thru $500 worth of rubber.

I really don't remember spinning my hyundai out, ever.
Those tires weren't studded, and were old as balls and were just horrible 80's style snow tires. Junk

And I distinctly remember me you and ryan driving over to longhorn twice in like a foot of snow because I left my keys there and you raving about how awesome it was in the snow.

I dunno when I slid out the galant, it was more than a few weeks ago though. It was like the beginning of november or something. Definitely not a crash, I ran up on a median.

well my CJ does have 4x4, but I also had a ZJ I sold last year that was a truck 4x4 system with a VCU center diff and 4-low, kinda unique. The newer ones IIRC have a VCU center but still had a switchable transfer case back to 2wd. It had open front and rear diff's though, my galant is VCU center and VCU rear AND a product of god's own hands 🙂

Where's Marisa Tomei, my cousin Vinny's GF, when you need her. She could straighten all this out.
