Irene. Worst ever?

The one battery back up system I see the most is called the watch dog. It does monitor the charging, water level(acid), battery voltage etc. It has led's on the front with a description of what that light means so you know whats going on with the battery at all times. There not cheap but the're good to have. They only last for 7.5 hours so anything more than that and your SOL. Best thing is if you know your prone to water, get a generator.

tried to commute in by bike this morning, 1.5 miles from work, road closed, completely flooded. Ride back around, my other way in, flooded also. Rode home, drove to work.

I'll be lucky to get off my island by Wednesday. The water rose a little overnight. Street is probably 3 feet under at the intersection to get out.

I'm not sad I don't have to go to the city. But I'm going to be a little stir crazy in this house after 4 days. At least we have power.

Yeah, this is the 4th time in 8 years. This one is the worst. 2 things that suck. First, I'm on the T word right now. Second, we're going to kill each other soon.

It's deja vu all over again.

In Pompton Lakes a flooded house exploded a little while ago. House is leveled and burning. Fortunately, the homeowners evacuated last night. It was the same scenario during Floyd where floating gas ignited by a pilot light destroyed a home just a few blocks away from where this one blew up.

Be safe, everyone.

Saturday night was a sleepless night basically anticipating the storm and being on red alert if power went out because the water was coming into my sump pit so fast that the pump was running non stop and was just barely keeping up with the inflow. If power went off for even a minute I would have had water everywhere. Sure enough power went off at like 3 or 4 am and I bolted out of bed but it came back on like a second or 2 later. I figured it could now go out any moment and ran downstairs to fire the generator and found the sump pit full to the top and level with the floor and the pump just maintaining. I hooked up the second smaller pump and ran a garden hose out the window and dropped that in to help the main pump.

I went out to check and make sure things were draining away from the house and when I came back in my son said "uh dad there is a squirrel running around in the basement". Sure enough it got in to escape the storm where the hose was running out. Damn those bastards are crazy. I tried several different things to try and contain it but they are FN insane especially when trapped inside and in red zone mode and of course while I am trying to battle a potential water disaster.

All in all everything worked out in the end and I was spared both water
damage and rabies. I was super toast by last night and consider myself pretty darn lucky.

Tried to get into work today. Not happening. Long Hill TWP is underwater. I went every way you could possibly go and ran into road blocks every which way. I parked up the street and tried walking through the water but got yelled at by Long Hill's finest and was sent packin'.

Somehow Mike was able to get through and take some pics...

This is as close as I got...This goes from here and took out nearly all of the Shop Rite parking lot, and goes back all the way to the river.

The last time it flooded like this it was about a week for it to go down enough to drive into the lot.

That was crazy. First I was impressed with how they were able to see enough to drive straight, figured army rated wipers. Then I was impressed by that guy figuring he might was well start swimming laps given the truck was stuck.

I was amazed they made it as far as they did with no way to see.

My in-laws stuck it out in the mandatory evacuation county of Cape May... They had power the whole night and no flooding or downed trees
