Jungle Habitat Conditions

Conditions were great today. A couple normal wet spots on Warthog but that's it. Baboon is amazing. Dump Truck can use a raking. Our group lost the trail many times.

Amazing Conditions!

Thanks to Dr. King for the day off! Rode Jungle this afternoon doing a greatest hits played faster (CVB reference) ride. The conditions were the best that I have ever seen at Jungle. Trails are frozen solid, no loose stuff or water. Simply perfect. Hopefully the rain/ice due tonight will not change the epic conditions.

Lets lay off the known trouble (wet) spots, there is plenty of riding higher up where there are more rocks. Last tme out I noticed parts of upper chute that were really getting dug up. Sad thing is, trail workers and maintainers even place rocks for us to use to stay above the mud, but many go around the rocks 😡

Rode JH today and it was perfect. What a great day to be out there. This whole week looks just as good.

We were there yesterday and it was moist, but surprisingly not bad. They've done a great job making trails that shed water well. Today they're probably solid.

Trails were awesome today, though very leafy and i lost a trail a couple times. Only bad spot is the bottom of Lower Chute which is a river. Everything else was primo. Good times.

post sandy report

Rode Jungle yesterday and I am very surprised at how well the place held up. It is very dry and while there are a lot of downed trees most missed the trails as luck would have it. The biggest problems were not downed trees but the leaf cover. I know the place well and kept losing the trail on Warthog.

Animal Shute - right when you turn in from the access road there is a chain of downed trees parallel to the trail and blocking access to the paved road down to Safari 1 as well as Lower Chute. Middle to Upper have two trees blocking the trail and overall were in good shape.

Warthog - First half has two trees down blocking the trail and the section that tends to hold water has a number(3-4 do not recall exactly) of trees leaning across the trail. I walked around these as they look like they could go at any time. Might be best to use the mud season bypass and skip this section. The remainder of the trail is clear, however leaf cover makes it difficult to locate the trail at points.

Otter Slide - Clear all the way to the top, leaf cover thins as you go higher and this trail is in great shape.

Tanks & Cages - Great shape, looks like someone took a leaf blower to these trails. Might be one tree down toward the end. I dont recall 100%.

Tiger Pen and the intersection of Tiger/Fish are a mess. From the section where you cross the paved path all the way to the fork where you can take fish or goat or boon is almost unrideable. Might be better to skip this and take outside fence.

Babs - Great shape, one tree down after you reach the peak and come thru the hole in the fence. Did not continue down the rest of Boon but from the top of Babs it looked good.

Fish - Great shape, again looks like someone went thru this with a leaf blower.

Hippo - good shape, leaf cover is bad on the lower parts.

Safari 1 back to the main parking lot has a huge tree down near where Safari 3 forks off. This one is almost impassable. Rode this back to the top of Animal Shute and it is covered with lots of branches and one other downed tree. All passable.

Would it be against some kind of rule if I went back there and hiked around with a gas blower and cleared some leaves?
