Mahlon Dickerson Reservation Conditions

As of Saturday 4 to 5 inches on white heading towards baseball fields, pretty much that whole side is snow covered , not rideable. Overlook trail is clean but yellow has snow on 1/4 of it mainly at the bottom after the stream crossing and then you climb to the devils staircase. 3 stone trail is clean. I don't know after all this rain if it melted but doubt it, the snow was deep.

4/1/14 : Its wet everywhere, water stream crossings are now raging rivers, it still needs a few days. Logging operation has started on the Sparta side of the WMA so watch out for that.

rode there on Saturday. Did the yellow loop around the Wall and Stone Gate dh. There was normal spring mud at the bottom of Stone Gate, but other than that it was great! The Wall and the new yellow trail were dry, conditions were fine.

There were some dry ruts along the fire roads leading up to the lake, they looked like cyclocross tires.

I'm going to check out the north side of the park tonight, including blue, purple, and orange.

Thanks for the update! I ride there often but not yet this season. Going to hit it up this coming weekend. Ride from Sparta loop the yellow then blue, purple orange then back to Sparta. nice 15 miles.

Did 27 miles of riding in Mahlon Sat\Sun. it is in very good shape. best part was I had the place to myself and a friend.

Dried out yet?

Do you know if it is rideable? I am going to try it tomorrow with a couple of friends...

Thanks

We had a great ride. The second car in the lot had the same crabon Beargrease that Goodvibe was on for the first time on Saturday.

Almost forgot. Rode here Sunday. Good, some wet spots down the bottom of Stonegate. Looks like weather will be poop again soon... 🙁

I road from Sparta today. there were ponds on the trail. section of stonegate had a stream going straight down the trail. many very good sections but some very messy ones also.

I think it rained a decent amount up there Saturday night, it was pretty wet today. Lower section of Stonegate (which I avoided), bottom of Cascade, and the Rail trial were all pretty wet. I stayed away from tiger blood pfiguring that's pretty low over there. It's rideable but a bit on the sloppy side, pretty much anything normally damp will be straight up wet.

Not sure yet but I might be right next to the park thurs evening after work or fri late afternoon. Would anyone be able to show me the goods? Or tell me where to park and how to run the place?

If I'm available I'll show you around. I usually park at the sparta park n ride and hit the new tiger blood trail on the WMA side then all the good stuff off the rail trail.

I can probably do thursday afternoon as i have an afternoon meeting on friday. Chris i need to show you the tree that needs to be cut out on RockNRoll trail and some of the other stuff i found out in the WMA this past winter that we need to restore. The logging operation is complete for this year so we can go in and clean up the skidder trail too soon. The state is also scheduled to install a bridge for us this year over the first stream crossing on Tigerblood from the Sparta side right near the beaver dam.

whats up with riding in the sparta wma? never heard of these trail names and there isn't alot of info out there on them....also what park and ride are you referencing? there is one at the police station i can think of

Right off Rt 15 is the Sparta Park and Ride. There is a gate that leads into the WMA right there. Its a maze of doubletrack that leads you eventually to the powerlines with a nice Dh trail into Maylon. A few spotty sections of singletrack trail that we maintain somewhat so we named them for reference. TigerBlood is the goods there if you can find it.: The entrance and exits are hidden to keep the dirtbikes and quads out, please keep it that way!

Softball has taken over my week so I'm out Thursday. Tony the next time I can get out there will be Saturday in the afternoon. I'll give you a shout if you're around.
