OOS MOGA

I hit Dickerson Mine for the first time today. Less climbing than LewMo, just don't end up by the beach.
Stay on White for low tech, try blue and yellow for some rocky challenges. Great park for 90 mins of riding. If you want more, you'll need to do multiple loops.
Park at the Frank St. lot, it was the perfect location to get to places quickly

Six Mile Run
bummer, just a bit far for me

I prefer 9am start as it replicates my race time starts. I don't mind the heat, pain is just weakness leaving the body embrace it, sweat a little.

I never embrace the heat and do all sorts of things to mitigate effect of heat, chiefly ice cold water and ice socks.

back when I did road racing, i would shove pounds of ice into my jersey. Gave me a leg up vs competitors. I remember two years ago I participated in a 50-mile race at 85F (and >95F heat index). Five whole pounds of ice, all melted 30% of the way into the race. Staying cool for ~50 min (as opposed to the entire race) might not seem much, but was enough to give me a leg up over the competition. Ended up in a 2-man break, and spent the last 45 minutes with an avg HR of 177, which is significant, as my lactate threshold HR is 174. Some poor guy in my race apparently suffered a heat stroke.

Always respect the heat

What a load of bunk.... humans are the greatest heat regulating animals on the planet. 99% of “heat strokes” are a result of over hydration. Dumb fools listen to drink companies saying you don’t know when you are thirsty......f the heat, watch your hart rate, drink only the you are thirsty and ride....

Are you sure, I often ride with a frozen water bladder in my pack. Feels great and the water is luxurious.
These was clipped from the Mayo Clinic website:

  • Drink extra fluids. To prevent dehydration, it's generally recommended to drink at least eight glasses of water, fruit juice, or vegetable juice per day. Because heat-related illness also can result from salt depletion, it may be advisable to substitute an electrolyte-rich sports drink for water during periods of extreme heat and humidity.
  • Take additional precautions when exercising or working outdoors. The general recommendation is to drink 24 ounces of fluid two hours before exercise, and consider adding another 8 ounces of water or sports drink right before exercise. During exercise, you should consume another 8 ounces of water every 20 minutes, even if you don't feel thirsty.
Treatment
  • Immerse you in cold water. A bath of cold or ice water has been proved to be the most effective way of quickly lowering your core body temperature. The quicker you can receive cold water immersion, the less risk of death and organ damage.
  • Use evaporation cooling techniques. If cold water immersion is unavailable, health care workers may try to lower your body temperature using an evaporation method. Cool water is misted on your body while warm air is fanned over you, causing the water to evaporate and cool your skin.
  • Pack you with ice and cooling blankets. Another method is to wrap you in a special cooling blanket and apply ice packs to your groin, neck, back and armpits to lower your temperature.
  • Give you medications to stop your shivering. If treatments to lower your body temperature make you shiver, your doctor may give you a muscle relaxant, such as a benzodiazepine. Shivering increases your body temperature, making treatment less effective.

You're right, that guy is posting nonsense. It is possible but very difficult to over-hydrate on very hot days, especially when cycling when you can only carry so much water.

Look, “people” started out as pack hunters in the mid day heat. We can sweat to cool our selves. All the 4 legged animals we ran down in the heat had to ether run and over heat or stop and be torn to bits. Our legs are filled with tendons (springs to store and reuse energy) to make us efficient distance runners. We can take more than on breath per stride unlike our 4 leged pray.
All this “hydrant or die” is just sports drink companies marketing bs. If people did not know when to drink, we would have died off 2 million years ago. The problem people have now is they are drinking to much and they are thinning out the blood to much and crashing. Most of these studies on hydration are paid for by sports drink companies..... you think they are going to allow findings that say people are over hydrated????

Guys sorry I'm out I chipped a tooth at like 11:30 last night messing around with my nephews dog. Dentist appointment at 9. I apologise for any inconvenience this sucks.
It's cool.
The guys will have to follow my slow arse.
Vic knows HM pretty well too so he can fly with them if they want to go fast.

I will be slower than usual but we are all "out of shape", ha ha.
I have some weird cramping going on my right calf. Got off the bus one day and my right calf started cramping very mildly and it has been coming and going since then.
So you got the OOS and then OOS with a disability... 🙁

@Mtbdog hope everything turns out ok if it's any consolation my son has baby teeth and we'll donate them to you for a transplant. Chipped teeth suck so bad I have my front tooth chipped🙁
